Don’t Slow Play Your Way Out Of Big Pots!

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Slow play is a term used in poker – especially Texas Holdem - for trying to lure your opponents into making a large bet so that you can trap them and take down a big pot.

It is usually used with a very good pre-flop hand such as pocket Aces on Kings. Instead of betting big, the slow player will sit back and limp in (call or check) as if he doesn′t have a hand worth betting, hoping that an opponent will have caught a lower pair or a straight draw and will come in with a big bet.

It is a classic poker manouever and one which has won a lot of money for poker players down through the ages, but it has lost it’s effectiveness. The simple reason for this is that everybody is now slow playing their big hands so it is almost expected.

So how do you use this situation to your advantage?

If you catch a big hand, you need to come out betting. Instead of trying to tempt your opponents into making a move so that you can come in over the top, make the bet yourself. Now most amateur players baulk at the thought of this in case the rest of the table folds and they “waste″ their big hand, but in reality you will normally always get some betting action from somebody.

By betting your big hand instead of slow playing it, you are performing a double bluff since most people would slow play it. Your opponents will often assume you are bluffing and you will get some betting action and ultimately win more money.

The other reason you should bet is that if you don’t bet, you are allowing your opponents a free look at the cards and every time a card is turned over they could be converting a losing hand to a winning one.

There is only one situation where it will always pay to slow play your hand - when you flop an absolute monster that almost cannot be beaten. For example say you are dealt Ace, Four of clubs and the flop is Queen, Ten, Nine of clubs. You have just flopped the nut flush and you’re pretty much unbeatable. OK somebody could have a pair of Queens, Tens or Nines and catch a fourth on the turn or river, or they could be holding the King of clubs and catch the Jack for a straight flush, but the chances of you not winning are now remote.

This is the time to slow play your hand. There are all sorts of hands that somebody else might be holding to make them think they are in a good position here; two other clubs, a straight draw, triples or even just a Queen for the top pair, whatever they’ve got the chances are somebody will think it’s worth betting. If the flop or river produces a King, Queen Jack, Ten or Nine you might get a big raise or even an all-in from somebody.

Now you let them build the pot up by just calling the bets and take down the pot with your nut flush.

Backing the Braves

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

The Atlanta Braves had recorded 14 straight NL East Division titles heading into last season. They left me no reason to believe they wouldn’t get number 15 in 2006 as the NL East has traditionally been one of the weakest divisions in baseball. The New York Mets got off to a fast start and I thought the Phillies could hang around for a while, but both teams are notorious for choking down the stretch, and that’s what I thought would ultimately happen. However, the Mets went on to have their best season in quite some time and Philly just did survive a late push from Atlanta.

The Braves are one of the best coached teams in Major League Baseball and they are able to beat you a number of ways. Their versatility, being able to play small ball or hit the long ball, has helped them continue their success while their pitching staff hasn’t been quite as dominant as it was in the 90’s. With that said, I expect their starting pitching to be very solid this season. In fact, the biggest reason the Braves have been the most dominant team in the National League for over a decade has been their consistent starting pitching. They might not have quite the staff that they once had with Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz leading the way, but Smoltz is still around to get the job done and Tim Hudson gives the Braves another dominant ace. I also like Chuck James to have a breakout year.

Andruw Jones has been one of the best defensive center fielder’s in baseball since he entered the league and in 2005 he showed that he can also swing a big bat as he tallied an unbelievable 51 homeruns. He still slugged 41 homeruns and drove in 129 runs last season and in a free agent year, I expect him to reach the 50 homerun mark yet again.

Let’s get right to it. You can expect the 2007 Atlanta Braves to make their backers money. Prior to last season, Braves backers had gained an impressive 57 units over the past 4 seasons. Last season’s struggles will undoubtedly have this team showing great value once again. One thing to really keep an eye on is Atlanta’s ability to destroy left handed pitching. With a solid right handed hitting lineup led by Andruw Jones’ newly found pop and Chipper Jones’ ability to switch hit, the Braves will once again dominate left handed starting pitching just as they have the past 7 years. They are especially good against lefties within their usually weak division. The only exception to the rule would be when the Braves are facing interleague opponents as often times they don’t put as much emphasis on these games and as a result they haven’t dominated left handed pitching in the same way.

Atlanta will be better in 2007, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get back to second place in the East, but they will likely finish third once again behind the Mets and the Phillies as baseball’s once weakest division continues to get stronger.

Tootsie Roll - Hey, Tootsie!

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

HEY, TOOTSIE
SWEETS FOR THE SWEETS
PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS
THE TOOTSIE ROLL EMPIRE
LOLLIPOP KING

THE DAUNTING QUESTION
252 LICKS
WAIT A MINUTE…144 LICKS

HEY, TOOTSIE

Tootsie Rolls are classic. Unchanged since the beginning, the little cylinder of chocolately chewy candy has stood the test of time since its debut over 100 years ago. A real piece of Americana.

SWEETS FOR THE SWEETS

Austrian immigrant Leo Hirshfield brought his recipe for a chocolately chewy candy to America in 1896 and began selling the candy in a New York City store. He named the little rolls after his five year old daughter, whose nickname was “Tootsie”. Within a decade the small operation grew into a four story factory. Soon after the company opts for the name change to Sweets Company of America and starts to distribute and advertise on a national level.

PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

The most astonishing thing about Tootsie Rolls longevity is that a tootsie roll still sells today for the original price of one cent each. As far as we have been able to determine, this is the only item in American history to completely avoid the influences of time and inflation. Marvelous, tootsie rolls for morning, noon and night!

THE TOOTSIE ROLL EMPIRE

Tootsie Roll Industries is one of the country’s largest candy companies. They are headquartered in Chicago with endeavors in
Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Mexico. Combined Tootsie Roll pumps out 60 million pieces of tootsie roll candy in a single day. Their net sales are somewhere in the range of $400 million a year. Not too shabby, for one penny at a time.

LOLLIPOP KING

The Tootsie Pop lollipop was invented in New York City in 1931. Today, Tootsie Roll is also the world’s largest supplier of lollipops with a daily supply of 20 million pops to adoring fans. The invention leads to one of the most compelling questions of American “pop” culture.

VINTAGE TV

In the early days of popular TV entertainment, Tootsie Roll sponsored some the most popular children’s shows of the era including, Howdy Doody, Rin Tin Tin and Rocky and Bullwinkle. You can your own piece of memorabilia at

THE DAUNTING QUESTION

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?

This has been on the minds of many since the original 1970 television commercial posed the question. Like in the commercial featuring the owl, not many people can wait long enough to get to the center without chomping down on it. However, more scientific studies have been conducted to determine this pondering enigma.

252 LICKS

A group of engineering students at Purdue University applied their weird science to the Tootsie Pop riddle and devised a licking machine to determine the truth. Modeled after a human tongue, it took an average of 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop. They then sampled the results from 20 real life volunteers and found that the average licks from both studied resulted in 252 licks.

WAIT A MINUTE…144 LICKS

A group of students at Swathmore Junior High School decided to take matters into their own hands and conducted their own scientific experiment and found that it took an average 144 licks to get to the center. Perhaps the vast difference between the two students might lie with either the natural digestive abilities of saliva or human persistence at a given task. Most likely a combination of both is why humans are better than machines when it comes to dishing out licks.

First Hotel on the Moon Finally Opens

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

August 23, 2025 - Today a new chapter in space tourism was written. Rod Markham and his wife-to-be Susan Millster arrived safely to the moon to spend 5 days as the first guests at the Starbright Hotel that was set up for this purpose two years ago.

Not are they only the first hotel guests on the moon, they also set a new record for expensive accommodation since the price was USD 3,7 million per night, per person. However, the exclusive transfer from earth to the hotel was included in the price.

The hotel itself will probably have a tough time just to try to gain one star at any hotel rating system, since there is no room service, the guests have to do the cleaning of the room themselves and there is no bathroom in them. However, they have more stars than they need just outside their window.

Rod and Susan will get married through link by their local minister in San Diego, California at 9.00pm EST tonight, and the wedding will be broadcasted live by several major TV networks in a 1-hour special including the preparations for the trip.

They were accompanied by six other astronauts that during the stay will set up further accommodations for the guests that have made reservations at the Starbright Hotel next year. The hotel has so far no employees, only temporary staff when guests.

Learn Guitar Chords - 7 Secrets the Pro’s Use

Friday, October 30th, 2009

If you’re like many guitarists out there who want to learn guitar chords but are having some trouble, then this article is for you. I’ll cover some key aspects that are often overlooked by tutors and “learn the guitar” products; I guarantee you’ll be able to learn guitar chords much easier after reading this article.

1. Do exercises

Ok, so don’t jump in your car and go to your local gym for workout, it’s just not going to help that much. What I mean by exercises is to do some guitar chord exercises. For example if you are trying to learn the G chord a good exercise to practice would be picking each note and then strumming, this will give you a good idea of how well you have formed the chord. If you’re hitting a lot of dead notes they will become obvious when you pick through each note.

2. Practice in your head

Yes, it sounds silly, but the science and results of this method are stacking up like apartments in Manhattan. If you’re not already trying to learn guitar chords in your head then you’re putting yourself at a severe disadvantage. Try this: Picture yourself holding your guitar, zoom in one the neck where you are going to form the chord. Now put your fingers on the strings and really concentrate on how you are going to get each finger into position. Those of you who already use this method know how powerful it is. If you don’t think it works then I only ask that you try it for one week and see what kind of results you get, you will be pleasantly surprised.

3. Do easy changes

Changing from one chord to another is without a doubt the best way to learn guitar chords. You’re putting yourself under pressure and committing the guitar chord shape to your muscle memory. Once you have it in your muscle memory it becomes a lot easier to form the chord again. Here are some simple changes to try: G Add 9 to C Add 9, A to E, C to G. For more exercises visit our Instant Guitarist website.

4. Build finger strength

Well I told you off for going to the gym earlier, but now it’s not such a silly idea. Building finger strength is often a slow (and sometimes painful) experience, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Practising scales, doing finger weights, and if you’re really keen finger press-ups are all great ways to improve your finger strength. One thing to remember is moderation, don’t over do it, just a few exercises a day should be plenty.

5. Look at other people

Don’t just look at anyone… they might think you’re weird. Look at guitarists! Notice the way they jump from chord to chord and how they are forming each chord. It’s such a good way to learn by example, however I need to give this disclaimer. It’s great, but you need to be careful not to copy bad habits, and a lot of the guitarists out there are limited by the bad habits they pick up from inexperienced tutors and rubbish guitar tutorials.

6. Wear a blind fold

Yeah I guess it does sound a bit rude, but if you want to be the ultimate Zen master and learn guitar chords quickly it’s a good idea to try it out. I don’t really wear a blindfold when I do this method; I just make sure I’m not looking at my hands when changing from one chord to another. To start with it will be too tricky to change chords, just try forming a G without looking at the fret-board, then give it a strum, pick each note and see how well you did. I’ve seen people have great success with this method, so I’m sure this will work for your playing.

7. Three at a time

Learn three chords at a time, I don’t know why this works, but it just does. Maybe it’s a magic number that our brains relate to, who knows? They key thing is that if you pick three guitar chords you want to learn and keep practising them, then you’re going to learn guitar chords a lot faster than if you just pick one or two. I’d recommend starting out with some of the easier ones (D, A, E, G), pick three of those and get to it!

Conclusion

I haven’t put these tips in any particular order; they’re all solid gold tips to being able to learn guitar chords faster than anyone else. I’d suggest writing down each method onto a piece of paper and start using it in your daily practise, you’ll be surprised at how fast you can see results. We have plenty more tips, including free video lessons, photo’s and diagrams at our Instant Guitarist site: www.instantguitarist.com, we also run a blog to keep you up to date with the latest news in the world of guitar, check it out!

Best Free Online Casinos

Friday, October 30th, 2009

If you are the type of individual stricken with an insatiable appetite for gambling on the internet, you must feel richer than King Midas on a good day. Why? Because never before has cyberspace been so heavily populated with casinos and online gambling rooms. Just take your pick from literally thousands of options, each one offering every single game a person with a strong imagination could think of.

With these kinds of odds on your side, it seems pretty clear that you cannot lose in your quest to find a fantastic place to gamble, right on your computer. Just don’t forget that old adage about the dangers of having too much of a good thing. Personally, I spent most of my life believing this was a big myth, a worthless old wives’ tale with no bearing on reality.

“How can it really be possible to have too much of a good thing?” I used to ask myself during idle moments. Then one night I decided to consume three gallons of rum raisin ice cream and wash it down with a case of malt liquor. As I lay on a stretcher being carted to the nearest emergency room for a pleasant night of stomach pumping, I finally saw the wisdom in the old adage. Alas, it was too late to do me any good.

Fortunately, you can learn from my mistakes. Trust me when I say that there really can be too much of a good thing. Therefore, if what you love to do more than anything else is gamble for free online, you might just find yourself overwhelmed by the plethora of web sites to choose from.

In an effort to relieve your dilemma, this article will look at a few of the best casinos out there that offer free games. Bear in mind that at most of these sites, free play is limited (either in the form of some kind of signup bonus or in terms of games offered. But you’ll still find a lot of great money-free options):

King Casino
All hail the King. This casino offers a wide variety of video, single-line and multi-line slot machines, not to mention lots of high-action table games.

Las Vegas Casino

Swiss Casino

Poker Terminology & The Origin of Poker Slang

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Where Poker Comes From

The origin of poker is the subject of much debate. All claims, and there are many, have been widely disputed by historians and other experts the world over. That said, among the most credible claims are that poker was invented by the Chinese in around 900AD, possibly deriving from the Chinese equivalent of dominos. Another theory is that Poker originated in Persia as the game ‘as nas’, which involved five players and required a special deck of 25-cards with five suits. To support the Chinese claim there is evidence that, on New Year’s Eve, 969, the Chinese Emperor Mu-Tsung played “domino cards” with his wife. This may have been the earliest version of poker.

Cards have tentatively been dated back to Egypt in the 12th and 13th century and still others claim that the came originated in India as Ganifa, but there is little evidence that is conclusive.

In the United States history, the background of poker is much better known and recorded. It emerged in New Orleans, on and around the steamboats that trawled up and down the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. The game then spread in very direction across the country – north, south, east, and west – until it was an established popular pastime.

Popular Poker Terms and Definitions

Ante: a forced bet each player places an equal amount of money or chips into the pot before the deal begins. In games where the acting dealer changes each turn, it is not uncommon for the players to agree that the dealer provides the ante for each player. This simplifies betting, but causes minor inequities if other players come and go or miss their turn to deal.

Blind or blind bet: a forced bet placed into the pot by one or more players before the deal begins, in a way that simulates bets made during play.

Board: (1) set of community cards in a community card game. (2) The set of face-up cards of a particular player in a stud game. (3) The set of all face-up cards in a stud game.

Bring In: Open a round of betting.

Call: match a bet or a raise.Door Card: In a stud game, a player’s first face-up card. In Hold’em, the door card is the first visible card of the flop.Fold: Referred to sometimes as ‘the fold’; appears mostly as a verb meaning to discard one’s hand and forfeit interest in the pot. Folding may be indicated verbally or by discarding cards face-down.High-low split games are those in which the pot is divided between the player with the best traditional hand, high hand, and the player with the lowest hand. Live Bet: posted by a player under conditions that give the option to raise even if no other player raises first.

Live Cards: In stud poker games, cards that will improve a hand that have not been seen among anyone’s upcards. In games such as Texas hold’em, a player’s hand is said to contain “live” cards if matching either of them on the board would give that player the lead over his opponent. Typically used to describe a hand that is weak, but not dominated.

Maniac: Lose and aggressive player; generally a player who bets constantly and plays many inferior hands. Nut hand: Sometimes referred to as the nuts, is the strongest possible hand in a given situation. The term applies mostly to community card poker games where the individual holding the strongest possible hand, with the given board of community cards, has the nut hand.

Rock: very tight player who plays very few hands and only continues to the pot with strong hands.

Split: Divide the pot among two or more players rather than awarding it all to a single player is known as splitting the pot. There are several situations in which this occurs, including ties and in the various games of intentional split-pot poker. Sometimes it is necessary to further split pots; commonly in community card high-low split games such as Omaha Holdem, where one player has the high hand and two or more players have tied low hands.

Three Pair: A Phenomenon of seven card versions of poker, such as seven card stud or Texas Holdem, it is possible for a player to have three pairs, although a player can only play two of them as part of a standard 5-card poker hand. This situation may jokingly be referred to as a player having a hand of three pair.

Under the Gun: The playing position to the direct left of the blinds in Texas Holdem or Omaha; act first on the first round of betting.

Learn Korean: Part 1 - Asian Languages and Language Families

Friday, October 30th, 2009

So, you have always been fascinated by Asian culture have you? Maybe you are someone who loves the martial arts; kung fu, tae-kwon-do, or karate. Perhaps you are interested in the cool oriental stores and like to buy many things from them to decorate your house. Maybe you like the peaceful society you see depicted in some Asian films. Or maybe you are just incredibly in love with the Asian languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Whatever your interest is in Asia and its society, it could never hurt to know a little bit about the culture. In fact, learning about something more than is shown in action movies and your Korean dramas can be quite beneficial.

My experience is with Korean culture and Korean language, but the culture is similar in most Asian countries.

Language Families

One of the main things you may have noticed is how incredibly different the Asian languages are from English. You come across languages such as Italian, Spanish, and French, and you can at least find some similarities in those languages and English. Yet there seem to be none between English and Asian languages! The fact is they just come from different language families. Most European languages will fall in the same language family as English. Many of these are in the Indo-European language families. Words will be similar between all of the languages that come from the same family.

Asian languages such as Japanese and Korean are in the same language family, the Altaic family. You will find many similarites in these two languages. Mandarin Chinese comes from the Sino-Tibetan family.

Altaic Family

The Altaic family is named after the Alti Mountains. They are located in Central Asia. The Altaic Family consists of Turkish, Mongolian, Korean, and Japanese. Out of these, Turkish is the most western of the languages, while Korean and Japanese are more eastern.

Sino-Tibetan Family

The Sino-Tibetan Family consists of Mandarin Chinese. Languages in this language family are made up of one syllable words, but there are MANY. There is no simple alphabet to form these words, which causes the vast number of Chinese characters, making it one of the hardest languages to learn. You also must learn to speak, read, and write all separately. There is no reading a word and being able to speak it, nor can you hear one and guess on how it is spelled. Writing is still completely on it’s own even if you can read, because you have to use proper stroke orders! Very time consuming to learn.

There are also several tones in these languages. A change in pitch while saying a word could change the meaning of the word completely. It makes the language sound very pretty when spoken, but is incredibly difficult to learn!

Sentence Structure

As with many Asian languages, a common fact you will notice is many of the languages follow an SOV sentence structure. That is, Subject, Object, Verb. English tends to place the verb after the subject of the sentence. Asian languages place the verb at the very end of the sentence. The most important part of the sentence is saved for last :) Don′t we all save the best for last?

Although much of the culture evolves around the language, there is plenty more to culture. Korean culture is amazing in every way. Look forward to future articles covering Korean culture!

No God But God - Reza Aslan

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

“No god but God″
So said Saddam

The butcher of Baghdad

Before being executed

Did he serve God?

Certainly such could be refuted.

Islamic law in Muslim nations has muted

Freedom of religious expression

Shown the heart of Allah

And to the world taught a lesson

Violating many human rights

Troubled many souls with sleepless nights

Permitting the burning and bombing of churches

Continual killing of Jews of Christians

Now Islamic jihadists are killing Americans and Europeans

No god but God

Is a wonderful concept
For all other gods besides Jesus
We should wisely reject
Unlike Reza Aslan does project
Islam is not a religion
Firmly rooted in the prophetic
Jewish and Christian tradition.
The Torah and Bible call Islam
Erroneous and an abomination.
That should be quite obvious
Look around the world at Islam’s murderous
Rage of religion, intolerant opinion
Hence it lacks spiritual dominion
For it spreads itself by violence
All other religions Islam meets with defiance
The prophet Muhammad
Is not one worthy of our reliance
This so-called prophet disobeyed his own doctrine

Marrying wives far more than four

More importantly, he fought in many religious wars
Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life
Jesus the Savior did not engage in religious strife
Christ gently entreated humanity never killing anyone
Through His exemplary life the hearts of the world He won
Peaceably and graciously welcoming everyone
He even forgave them as to the cross they crucified Him
The religious fanatics crucified God’s own Son
He who had for humanity come
To save us from ourselves and sin
To deposit the Holy Spirit to live within
To liberate us from intolerant dead religion
Victoriously Christ arose from the grave
In the power of the resurrection to save
Every tribe, kindred, tongue, and nation
To declare good news to all, an emancipation
From every false religious representation
To birth within the heart of man a new creation
That they might seek and know their heavenly Father
Lovingly embrace and accept one another
Tasting and experiencing the goodness of the Spirit
Lifting up their voice happily, that all might hear it
Beyond being cerebral, you can be spiritual
Beyond being religious, you can enjoy revival
Beyond being as Islam - intolerant and violent
You can surpass Islam’s spiritual impotence
Bridge the divide and close the gap that does distance
Mankind from its Creator
Humbly kneel and implore
Christ will open religious prison doors

God is not the author of religion
Religion is man’s creation
Religion is Satan’s chief deception
The blessing of heaven
Intimately know God 24/7
Lift up your eyes
Awake and realize
That Islam is a religion of orphans
They don’t know God as Father
Hence they are on edge
Not knowing the comfort of being a son or daughter
Nobody can get to the Father in heaven
But through Christ
For you He gave His life
God is not a killer, He is a life giver
Taste and see the Lord of glory is good
Be filled with the Spirit of truth and live as you should
Not in quarreling and contention
But joyously in divine celebration.
For whosoever calls upon Christ Jesus
Shall be saved
No do’s and don’ts need to be made
Believe and receive
Christ will meet your heart’s need
On the cross for you He did bleed
Therefore you need not to die for God
Because God in Christ already died for you
Repent of sin and in your heart invite Christ in
There is nothing left to do.
Simply believe and the Spirit of God will magnificently show you.

Fear not! Jesus Christ the captain of the hosts and Prince of Peace
Will give you triumph over tribulation and divine release.
Give God glory in the highest and experience peace on earth

It all begins through Jesus from whom comes spiritual new birth.

For Christ’s kingdom is established by His Holy Spirit within

Conquer the heart’s of mankind and this war on terror you’ll win.

Soccer Tips - Soccer Betting, The New Investment

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Soccer is the most widely watched games in the world. It has the most number of people betting on the games. When one refers to soccer tips, they are actually referring to the soccer betting tips.

There are a lot of soccer tipsters providing soccer tips on the internet. This number is now ever growing as more and more people are going into soccer betting as another form of income.

Depending on each country, they have their own betting restrictions imposed on their country. You may want to check these restrictions before considering going into soccer betting.

Primary reason why most people are now going into soccer betting is because the nature of the game. It is played for a period of 90 minutes. Your winning or loss is only based on 90 minutes. This can be seen as a fast way of making money for some.

Same as any other form of investment, there will always be some risk factor.

As for soccer betting, there is only two way to bet. Either the team win or lose. There’s only two team playing and risk is only between these two teams.
