Michael Buble “It’s Time” Vocal Jazz CD Review

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

As Tony Bennett said “Buble’ has IT″, and with the release of It’s Time IT is on full display.

Man! I’m here to tell you this guy can flat out sing.

With songs on this CD like Quando, Quando, Quando, a beautifully crafted duet with Nelly Furtado Buble is doing nothing but growing his already lofty status in the music world.

It’s magical how with his style and sound he’s able to make even old songs sound brand new.

The way in which every single song is so well done on this CD makes this a collection of tunes music fans like myself simply cannot pass on. Until Buble’ Sinatra was hands down the smoothest of the Jazz singers. That is until Buble’.

Though still very young he has proven to be a very talented artist with the type of voice that even if Jazz isn’t your favorite style you can’t help but appreciate his absolutely silky smooth vocal talents.

The CD launches with a perfect track to start the collection of with in Feeling Good, and from there Buble′ just bowls you over with his talent.

Overall Buble’s vocals and the CDs production value make It’s Time an outstanding release. What I call, must have music. I give it two thumbs up. A CD even casual music fans will appreciate and enjoy listening to.

The standout tunes on It’s Time are Feeling Good [track 1], Quando, Quando, Quando, a duet featuring Nelly Furtado [track 4], and Song For You, featuring Chris Botti [track 11]. My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 9, Try A Little Tenderness. Very nice!

Astrology, Numerology & Compatibility - Why You Need to Scrutinize a Lot More Than Just Sun Signs

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Instead of considering only astrological Sun signs,
we believe that the comprehensive astrology and
numerology charts must be scrutinized if one wants
to consider true personality, compatibility, and
personal timing (prediction and forecasting).

Also, thorough handwriting analysis done by a well-
trained professional adds a great deal of additional
insight about subconscious character, much of which
that can’t be found through modern, psychological
astrology.

On the surface, you may think you have great astrological
compatibility on paper with two seemingly easy-going,
compassionate people (signified in part, for example, by
both having an abundance of Pisces and Cancer energy).

However, it’s discovered that one has very compressed,
narrow, extreme right-slanted, sharp, angular, heavy
pressure script with rigid baselines and downward slanting,
weak-ending, pointed letter t-bars. Plus, strong patterns
of over-balanced “8” and “1” energy are found in the
comprehensive numerology charts. All of this with
other corroborating information alerts the analyst to
the strong possibility of that person being a domineering
abuser.

The other person’s comprehensive charts involve, in
part, lots of under-balanced “2” energy which suggests
dependency and self-deprecation. In support of these
notions, that person’s script includes martyr/victim traits
such as small overall script size, light writing pressure,
close word spacing, excessively rounded and immature-
looking writing, droopy rhythm and connectives
between letters, pinched circle letters, low and weakly
crossed letter t-bars back to the left instead of to the right,
and x-formations where the letter x is not present.

In this case, a surface astrology interpretation would
unfortunately leave open the potential for a very toxic,
if not dangerous match.

An aside, psychology was not part of astrology until
about 100 years ago. The approximately 2000 year
tradition of the science of astrology involves mostly
prediction instead of psychological character analysis.
Unfortunately, in our view, most astrology found today
in print or on-line is primarily modern, psychological
astrology, and involves a frivolous and distorted
approach to the science.

Astrology that’s largely for entertainment only
(although usually not presented as such) includes,
for example, Sun or Moon sign horoscopes, and
readings done by astrologers who commonly promote
falsehoods such as, “…(numerology or) astrology isn’t
predestination or fate…how things play out is going to
be up to you,” stated to cover a refusal to do in-depth
delineation, or mask an inability to do accurate
prediction.

Some popular modern astrologers even go so far as to
offensively suggest escapism, wishful thinking, self-
fulfilling prophesies, and a failure to take responsibility
for one’s actions and life in response to the idea that
some astrologers and numerologists (like us) say it’s
possible to measure and outline personal fate (i.e.,
impart the general inclination of fate, and frequently,
even precise future circumstances and events). Worse,
they deny that fate exists, and also deny the reality
that varying degrees of unavoidable adversity (which
is also measurable) in people’s lives serves a divine
purpose.

The truth is that their form of astrology or numerology
isn’t about predestination or fate and that original ancient
predictive astrology and numerology are absolutely about
predestination and fate.

It’s ironic how fully embracing the concepts of karma and
fate is directly related to taking responsibility for one’s
actions and that much of the modern astrology found
today offers mainly an escape from the hard realities of
life.

Reviewing Sun Signs, Moon Signs, or any other individual
aspect without considering the rest of the charts’ contents
and patterns within those charts, will only give you surface
insight. It tells you virtually nothing about the reality of the
personality, or the compatibility between you and another
person.

For example, the Sign of Aquarius is considered to be
relatively harmonious with the Sign of Sagittarius. If
you select ten random people with Aquarius Sun Signs
and match them with ten people with Sagittarius Sun Signs,
it’s entirely possible that none of them will get along with
each other. It’s also entirely possible that all of them will
get along.

The best romantic matches for a Libra Sun and Cancer
Moon combination, for instance, depends entirely upon the
health of the respective planets (strong and well, or involving
afflictions including planets in detriment, badly aspected
planets, weak house placement, retrogrades, etc.), their
rulers and the health of those rulers, along with the rest
of the several hundred aspects, and patterns comprised
of those aspects, throughout the comprehensive charts
of each person.

It’s possible for a person with a Libra Sun and Cancer
Moon, for example, to have wonderful compatibility with
a person with an Aries Sun and Capricorn Moon, both
oppositions.

Oppositions are commonly considered to involve poor
compatibility, but sometimes very close oppositions
(opposing planets that are very tightly aspected by a
degree or two, within the compatibility charts) offer
more reward than challenge, especially if the remaining
composite contents are harmonious.

Oppositions are as follows:
Aries is opposed to Libra.
Taurus is opposed to Scorpio.
Gemini is opposed to Sagittarius.
Cancer is opposed to Capricorn.
Leo is opposed to Aquarius.
Virgo is opposed to Pisces.

Conjunctions, same sign combinations, represent
intensification of the sign’s energy, and is sometimes
positive and sometimes negative. Generally, it’s a
“hard” aspect, and not as easy flowing as trines and
sextiles.

Although we feel that modern astrology places too
much emphasis on Ptolemaic aspects, it’s good to
have an understanding of them.

The basic, major Ptolemaic aspects include oppositions
(180 degree angle), conjunctions (0 degree angle),
squares (90 degree angle), trines (120 degree angle),
and sextiles (60 degree angle).

Square aspects are combinations of signs that are of
different elements (see below), like Taurus with Leo,
and generally indicate challenge and tension. Trine
aspects are combinations of signs that are of the same
element, such as Scorpio with Pisces (both water), and are
generally agreeable. Sextile aspects are combinations of
signs that are of compatible, but different, elements such
as Cancer with Virgo, or Leo with Libra, and are also
generally favorable.

If you accept the trivial approach of reviewing only the
Sun and Moon signs, which might offer a preview at best,
then it’s good to look at the elemental combinations of the
signs for some basic awareness.

On the surface, fire and air are harmonious, and earth and
water are harmonious. In addition, each element commonly
mixes well with itself (fire and fire, etc.).

Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.

Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.

Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

A surface approach will involve Libra Sun, Cancer
Moon compatibility with an air or fire Sun, along with
a water or earth Moon, but that’s just the beginning.

If you want to go a little deeper, yet still not get into
comprehensive analysis, considering the nature of the
sign is also helpful (Fixed, Mutable, or Cardinal), as is
considering the masculine or feminine nature of the sign
(fire and air are masculine, and earth and water are
feminine).

We also strongly recommend contemplating each
person’s personal timing when considering compatibility.

Personal timing, comprised of scores of short, medium,
and long-term continuous and non-continuous numerological
and astrological cyclical timing methods, regularly
symbolically makes or breaks relationships. The collective
cycles can be divided into groups that are the basis for
pattern recognition.

Two people can seemingly have nothing in common aside
from their current personal time cycles (some as short as
a day, others as long as many years), and when those
time cycles change, the relationship changes, or even
dissolves.

It should be noted that we understand that it is possible
for someone who has strong, solid psychic ability and a
good, general understanding of astrology to successfully
use Sun and Moon signs exclusively as psychic touchstones.
But few have this talent where they can get consistent,
accurate reads without a comprehensive approach.

Again, an astrologer must consider all comprehensive
charts in determining compatibility, along with the
comprehensive timing charts, and not just the Sun and
Moon signs if one really wants to uncover existing
compatibility. Again, we have found that you also must
consider the comprehensive numerology charts, along with
handwriting analysis (subconscious fears and defenses, etc.),
if you want a high level of accuracy.

A skeptic saying that they “…don’t believe in astrology,”
to us, is a reasonable and understandable statement if
they have only been exposed to Sun Sign astrology,
which is the basis for most astrology horoscopes today.

Comparing Sun Sign astrology to an in-depth analysis
as referred to in the above paragraphs is like comparing
conspiracy theory half-truths to confirmed CIA intelligence.

How to Get Digital Photos Transferred to 35mm Slides

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

It’s really very simple and straightforward getting your digital photos transferred to 35mm slides, provided you prepare your digital photographs correctly beforehand. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to do this, so you can relax. I’m going to explain the process in simple terms so after reading this article you’ll be an expert!

Perhaps the most common question asked is “Can a digital camera produce a good enough image for a slide?” The answer is “Yes” near enough every digital camera available today will produce images that make great slides. Any camera with 2M pixels or more will produce a photo that will look better on a slide than on your computer monitor. For the best results you should use the highest resolution available on your camera.

Another common question asked is “Does the processor just take a photo of a computer monitor?” The answer to this question is “No!” The processing firm will use an extremely high resolution monochrome cathode ray tube called a ‘film recorder’, which has a lens, shutter and camera attached to it. The file containing your digital photo is sent to the recorder one colour element at a time. Once all three colour elements (red, green, blue) have been sent the image will have been captured on film. For 35 mm film the whole process takes only 30 to 90 seconds.

Most digital cameras capture photos in a different aspect ratio compared to a full frame slide. This means that if you leave your photos unedited your slides will have small black borders on their edges. So if you want your photo to fill the slide frame completely you’ll need to crop it with an aspect ratio of 2:3, which is the same aspect ratio as a 6 x 4 inch print. The actual aperture of most slide mounts is approximately 3840 x 2560 pixels, though this will vary depending upon the mount stock used. Clearly, if your images are sized to these dimensions the processor will not need to scale your photos to fully fit the slide frame.

Usually a processor will support many different file formats. However, it’s recommended that you use the most common format, which is high quality JPEG. The resolution of the file is not important as it’s the number pixels in the image that determine the quality of the finished slide. For the best quality slides an image resolution of 1800 x 1200 pixels or more is recommended. In any case, it’s not advisable to go lower than 800 x 600 pixels unless there’s no fine detail in the image. The absolute optimum resolution for 35mm slides is the one set up for the film recorder, which is generally 4k or 4096 x 2732 pixels.

The final step is getting your files to the processor. Many online processors have a facility where you can FTP your JPEG files directly to them. Alternatively you can provide your files saved on your camera’s memory card or transferred onto a floppy disk or CD-ROM. If you have a large number of images it is usually acceptable to archive them in a ZIP file or similar.

Learning Spanish - Intercambios

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

What got me started on an Intercambio jag was learning how Mexicans in the tourist industry on Mexico’s Gold Coast learn English and achieve an amazing level of proficiency. They do it by engaging in Intercambios! This is where you exchange an hour of helping a Mexican struggling to learn English with an hour of him helping you with your Spanish. This is not just a good idea for learning Spanish but also an excellent way to master the culture. Far too few people stress a bicultural proficiency along with a linguistic fluency. You need both.

Many American companies, laboring under the false assumption that familiarity with Hispanics in general makes one an expert in Mexican culture, learn quickly this doesn’t work. Some of the companies that want to begin a Mexican branch of their business will hire a fluent Spanish speaker to go to Mexico to run it. The person may have kept up his Spanish fluency with his American Hispanic family. However, the family might be second or third generation American Hispanics that, though Spanish fluent, has no Mexican cultural fluency. Though the family members can speak, read, and write Spanish, they have become so Americanized that they no longer understand the Mexican culture. The company finds it would have done better to send the person’s grandparent or even great-grandparent to run the Mexican branch.

Linguistic fluency does not guarantee cultural fluency. One needs both to successfully interact with Mexicans in Mexico.

This is where the Intercambios rise to the occasion.

My wife learned more about Mexican culture through teaching ESL than the students seemed to learn English. Her students also made the comment at how thankful they were to have learned some American culture within the framework of their ESL classes. You′ve got to have both. The language is the portal to the culture.

The best part of an Intercambio?

It’s free! No money exchanges hands. It’s a barter gig.

I love free!

KT Tunstall “Eye To The Telescope” Pop Music CD Review

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Fresh new singer, songwriter KT Tunstall has released her debut CD entitled Eye To The Telescope and I have to say there is not one single bad song on it. Not one!

Being in the radio business I get forced fed quite a bit of all kinds of music and I must admit I was hesitant to try on KT Tunstall’s CD, but after hearing it I’m very glad I gave it a listen.

There is a simplicity to her lyrics that I’m finding quite refreshing.

Eye To The Telescope launches with an outstanding track, Other Side Of The World, that will definitely be heard on radio stations everywhere. One of the things I find really nice about Miss Tunstall’s music and lyrics is that every song in this collection could be heard on the radio and in several different formats.

Overall Eye To The Telescope is an outstanding release. I give it two thumbs up.

This is a CD any music fan can and will enjoy totally irregardless of genre preference. It’s just simply good music and a must have album.

The standout tunes on Eye To The Telescope are Another Place To Fall [track 2], Under The Weather [track 3], and Universe & U [track 7]. My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 8, False Alarm. Very nice, as are all the tracks on this CD.

Release Notes:

KT Tunstall originally released Eye To The Telescope on February 7, 2006 on the Virgin Records label.

CD track list follows:

1. Other Side Of The World
2. Another Place To Fall
3. Under The Weather
4. Black Horse and the Cherry Tree
5. Miniature Disasters

Avoid Mistakes When Picking A Tattoo

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

So you finally made the decision to get a tattoo. You are probably excited about the idea and can’t wait to go in to get inked for the first time. All your friends are inked and now you have the courage to just do it. But before you do, hold on for a minute.

Let’s presume that you have already carefully researched your artist. You know that he or she is talented and can do a great job. You have also scouted out the place and feel comfortable knowing the establishment is clean, safe, and follows all the guidelines.

The biggest decision you now have to make is with your design. Even if it is your first tattoo and you feel that you are just experimenting, extra precaution should be made. A tattoo design will live with you forever and this undertaking can not be taken lightly.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of tattoo designs to choose from and the overwhelming feeling to just pick something can easily take hold if you let it. Don’t get caught up in the excitement. Think of your tattoo as a major purchase, a very expensive purchase. When you spend thousands of dollars on an item, you generally take more time to think about the decision. Although tattoos are fairly inexpensive depending upon the design, think of it as purchasing a home or a car. Make your tattoo design something of extreme value and not just a pretty or cool design on your body to show off like a piece of jewelry.

Use the internet to get some ideas of your design, but realize that you do not have to choose those designs. The designs online are not completely original because everyone else is on the internet downloading them as well.

Stay true and unique to yourself when choosing your design. One of the reasons for getting a tattoo is for originality. You do not want a tattoo that a million other people have. Your personality is unique and unlike any other person and your tattoo design should reflect that as well.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself to avoid making tattoo mistakes:

Why am I getting a tattoo?

Did I take enough time researching my design?

Why did I choose the design?

Is my design common and does originality matter to me?

What does the design mean to me?

What does the tattoo design represent in my life?

Will it still have the same meaning to me five years from now?

Is the placement of my tattoo perfect for the design?

After you have given a tremendous amount of thought about your tattoo design and feel you are mentally and physically ready, that is when you can head for the tattoo shop. Remember that you do not have to choose a design on the internet or your tattoo artist wall. These are great places to start, but they do not have to be your final destination.

When you have gone through the process of evaluating a design tailor made for you, ask your artist to design it for you. It is well worth the effort because the tattoo of your dream is an item of value that will be placed on the most important person in the world…you.

Let your tattoo speak for itself. Give it a voice and let your tattoo speak. A single tattoo can tell a whole life story. Make yours memorable and not common.

Good luck in your tattoo design and choose it from your soul!

View Paintings and Exhibitions of Shi Xinning - Chinese Artist

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Shi Xinning was born on 1969 in Liaoning Province, China. Trained in China, Shi Xinning’s paintings are influenced by both social realism and European styles. Using the authoritative qualities of both, Shi embarks on history painting with a twist. Taking his imagery from iconic press photos, Shi’s canvases faithfully represent the world as we know it, the Yalta Conference in familiar 40s sepia tone, the Queen Mum in carriage emblazoned in newspaper black and white. It’s only on second glance that Shi’s alterations become evident. Nestled between Churchill and FDR and conversing happily with royalty, Mao takes his place amongst the great leaders of the 20th century.

In China-fying history, Shi investigates dynamics of both the west’s Eurocentric, and China’s isolationist past world views. Humorously illustrating the Chairman’s import and omnipresence in 20th c Chinese society Shi’s insertion of Mao into the fabric of western collective conscience seems entirely plausible. Infusing the totems of propaganda currency with a sense of normality and humility, Shi re-authors the most cherished moments of collective memory with a ‘Forrest Gump’ effect, creating a specious mythology based in Hollywood schmaltz and unabashed optimism.

Conclusions:
Shi Xinning had already established his own style and the impact of the work had won him a strong reputation in Chinese art circles.

The Day The Music Died

Friday, May 29th, 2009

No matter what generation you are from, if you’re a music lover, you remember certain events: those of the Baby Boomer’s generation remember where they were when Elvis died, those of Generation Jones remember where they were when John Lennon was shot, and those of the MTV Generation remember where they were when it came out that Milli Vanilli were fakes. Different generations tend to remember different things. But, there is one event - due partly to Don McLean’s tribute song - that transcends eras: if you love music, then you probably know about the day it died.

The Day the Music Died is the term often used to describe a plane crash that took place on February 3, 1959 in Iowa. One of the biggest musical tragedies in history, this crash killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper), and Roger Peterson, the pilot.

The events that led up to the crash were protocol in the music business. Holly, Valens, and Richardson, as well as their respective band members, were on “The Winter Dance Party” tour, a tour that was to stop in 24 Midwest cities in the span of three weeks. When they had an open date, their promoters called The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa and booked a show. The Surf Ballroom, until that spur of the moment decision, was not a scheduled stop.

When Buddy Holly arrived at the ballroom, he suggested that he and his band mates charter a plane to an airport near Moorhead, Minnesota, the destination of their next performance. Holly, and many of the other musicians, were tired of riding in the tour bus. Not only was it crowded and confining, but it also suffered a broken heating system, causing all the band members discomfort and one band member to be taken to the hospital with frostbite.

The musicians found a plane they could charter and a pilot, Roger Peterson. The plane was a Beechcraft Bonanza, a single engine aircraft with three passenger seats. Holly and Waylon Jennings had two of the original seats but The Big Bopper, having grown ill, asked Jennings to give him his seat. Jennings obliged.

Tommy Allsup, Holly’s other band mate, procured the third seat but Ritchie Valens, having never flown in a small plane, asked Allsup if he could have it. Allsup agreed to a coin toss, whomever won the coin toss won the seat. Valens proved victorious, at least initially.

Dion DiMucci, the fourth act on the Winter Dance Party tour, was also offered a seat. He, however, refused, stating that the price was too high.

As for the crash itself, no one can say for sure what happened. A little after one in the morning on February 3, the plane left Mason City Municipal Airport. Peterson, at the controls, had planned to file a flight plan once he cleared the tower, but instead, he never called. Before take off was the last anyone ever heard from Peterson or the three musicians on board.

At nine a.m. that morning, Jerry Dwyer, the owner of the plane Peterson was piloting, boarded a plane to search for the missing Beechcraft Bonanza. This came after several unsuccessful attempts by Dwyer to reach Peterson.

After searching by air for only a few minutes, Dwyer spotted the plane’s wreckage in a cornfield below. The plane was found at a downward angle, sloped to the right. It was estimated to be traveling 170 miles an hour when it struck the ground, rolled 570 feet, and ended up balled against a wire fence. The pilot died inside while all three musicians were thrown from the aircraft. The medical examiner concluded that all four onboard died instantly from trauma to the head.

As investigators sought to piece together what happened, they concluded poor visibility brought on by bad weather conditions played a huge role in the crash. They also believed Peterson may not have been well versed in using flight instruments and may have been used to relying on his own vision. Investigators also believed he was not given an accurate account of the severity of the weather. Had he known how bad the conditions were, he may have never taken off.

When Buddy Holly’s .22 pistol was found in the cornfield a few months later, theories of foul play began to surface. However, no evidence ever supported these theories and the accident was ruled just that: an accident.

More devastating than the loss of musical talent was the loss of youth. At the times of their deaths The Big Bopper was 28, Buddy Holly was 22, Roger Peterson was 21, and Ritchie Valens was 17.

In memory of The Day the Music Died, Ken Paquette, a music lover from Wisconsin, built a monument of stainless steel. The monument contains a steel guitar, and three records. It bears the names of the three musicians who perished as well as the pilot’s. It is located near the sight of the crash.

A similar monument was unveiled on July 17, 2003 outside the Riverside Ballroom in Wisconsin. The River Side Ballroom was where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper played on February 1, 1959, roughly thirty hours before the world of music changed forever.

Friday, May 29th, 2009

The CBS Big Brother Allstars show is nothing without the 24/7 access to the house. The livefeeds show how alliances are formed and broken, the silly stunts that houseguests get into, blossoming romance, and drunken adventures… Get your Livefeeds Now !

Erika is the new POV and apparently she broke a rib during the Food Challenge. She also seems to be under Kaysars control and will listen to whatever he tells her to do.

Kaysar’s plan was originally intended to get Nakomis out of the house because she was another sneaky player- but more so to show Diane that the Chill Town Alliance was not actually on her side and that she should join the Big Brother Six Alliance. After a heart to heart with Nakomis he has now changed his mind and sees Diane as a bigger threat and has shifted his plan to now get Diane out of the house. Janelle is okay with this plan as she wants Diane out too because of the secret alliance her and Jase seem to have. Also probably because she is attractive and has a shot at swooning the Big Brother Boys. He also made a deal with Boogie not to be put up- but in a drunken state- he openly asked Howie to change Alliances and join the Chill Town group. Kaysar may now break his promise with Boogie and get Erika to put him up.

James and Janelle are pissed off at Kaysar for not putting up the Chill Town Alliance. Janelle has seemed to warm up to the idea of having another girl out of the house and is wanting Diane out. She would be happy being the only girl left as so far all four nominations have been women.

Howie seems to be more concerned with counting bricks in the house then playing the game.

Chicken George seems to be aligned with the Chill town group as he stays clear away from the BB6 group which may make him a future target of the group.
