Party Games Can Add Some Party Fun

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

All the food is perfect; the decorations are just right but what party games are there that will add to an occasion? Well a lot of that decision hinges on the number of guests and how much room there is to work within.

Party games for an outdoor summer party can be very rowdy and active. Old fashioned games are perfect for Independence Day celebrations. Some Historic music and old fashioned toys can be used. Yard games like horse shoes and bad mitten are fine for older children and adults. Modern theme parties can utilize the swimming pool or tennis courts along with quieter games like charades.

There really aren′t many limits to the kinds of party games that can be used when space is unlimited and weather is perfect. But when this isn′t the case perhaps an apartment complex will have a party house that can be rented. They often have facilities that include folding tables and chairs so that bingo is easily organized. Simple games like guessing games and musical chairs are fine. Even adults like party games that are themed to the occasion.

An outdoor party or barbeque can have pin the coconut on the palm tree. It sounds silly but in fact can be a lot of fun. Simple games that have the right slant can be fun decorating opportunities as well. An old rose trellis could support a makeshift goal post for football pass contests. A portable basketball hoop is perfect for dunking contests. The existing sports equipment or games can be successfully employed.

Party games can be as simple or complex as the guest list and room allows. Never overlook an obvious entertainment option like a dueling instruments sort of competition. Karaoke is always fun and sometimes the guests are very talented.

The X-Files (Season 3) DVD Review

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Nominated for 12 Golden Globes and 61 Emmys, including 4 for Outstanding Drama Series, The X-Files is one of the world’s most popular science-fiction drama shows. Premiering in the Fall of 1993 on the Fox Network, home of popular programs such as The Simpsons (1989) and King Of The Hill (1997), The X-Files created an entire fictional world of conspiracies and secret organizations, building a legion of fanatic followers as devoted to the series as Trekkies are to Star Trek. Creator Cris Carter, a former writer for numerous TV shows in the late-80s/early-90s - The Nanny (1993) is one example - brings together the finest aspects of suspense-laden spy novels and alien science fiction. The result is one of the top sci-fi franchises ever produced, spawning its own line of merchandise and even a full length feature film - The X-Files: Fight The Future (1998). With nine successful seasons to its credit, The X-Files is one of the longest-running sci-fi series in television history…

The X-Files follows the exploits of four FBI agents assigned to investigate a series of unsolved and mysterious cases known only as “The X-Files”. FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny), Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), John Doggett (Robert Patrick), and Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) are the primary agents investigating these unusual cases which could never be solved by conventional investigatory methods. But Mulder and Scully in particular play prominent roles in the series. The partnership and friendship the two develop during the course of the series sets the tone for their investigations into the paranormal with Scully, a medical doctor, playing the skeptic to Mulder’s deeply held beliefs in widespread government conspiracies and alien abductions. Through the course of the series, The X-Files covers a wide-range of frightening and mysterious subjects from killer insects and secret world government organizations to the colonization of Earth by parasitic aliens. In so doing, it adds its own unique brand of humor and an original blend of creativity that fans of the genre will certainly appreciate…

The X-Files (Season 3) DVD features a number of suspense riddled episodes including the season premiere “The Blessing Way” in which Mulder remains missing from last season’s finale and Scully must track him down with her job on the line and while the cigarette-smoking-man pursues the stolen X-Files. When a group of Navajo Indians discover Mulder’s body in a cave, they must summon the forces of the spirit world in order to breathe life back into his empty shell of a body… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “Nisei” in which Scully and Mulder’s investigation of a videotaped alien autopsy leads them to the doorstep of a World War II-era series of experiments by Japanese scientists, and “Pusher” in which Mulder matches psychic wits with a dying serial killer who harbors a unique power to practice mind control on his victims…

Types of Horse Races

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Horse Races come in several types, namely, stakes, handicap,
allowance, claiming or maiden races. Each one of these have
important differences in terms of the types of horses entered
into the race, as well as how horse owners and trainers will
decide to run their horse in the race.

Stakes races are those which occur annually, offer very large
purses, and attract very high quality horses. Examples of stakes
races include the Belmont Stakes and the Kentucky Derby.

Handicap races are such that the weights of the various jockeys
are equalized through the use of lead weights. Many consider the
weight that a horse is carrying to be one of the critical
factors in handicapping races. Older, stronger horses are
typically allowed to carry more weight than younger horses, and
these differences are one of the many factors savvy handicappers
take into account when choosing their winners.

Claiming races are far and away the most common type of race. In
a claiming race, each horse is entered at a specific price, and
may be purchased, or “claimed” by another owner. Claiming is one
way in which competition between horses can be equalized. For
example, an excellent horse which is valued at $20,000 will not
run in a claiming race where the claiming price is $5,000 or
less. Conversely, a horse with a low value (e.g., due to poor
past performance) is unlikely to run in a race with a high
claiming price, simply because it will be outclassed. In fact,
it is unlikely that track officials would even allow such
discrepancies to take place.

Allowance races are essentially non-claiming races, usually
designed for horses which race infrequently.

Lastly, Maiden races are for those horses who have never won.
Other conditions may be applied to maiden races as well, such as
“Non winners in last 3 races.” Maiden races are sometimes
difficult to handicap because the entire field may consist of
horses with minimal past performance histories. However, careful
handicappers will spot maiden races which have a horse or two
which has some history of winning relative to others in the race.

When one is placing a bet on a horse, the better is actually
betting on the skills of the horse, the jockey, and the trainer.
In the hands of skilled trainers and jockeys, horses with poor
past performances can have their careers rejuvenated, oftentimes
by making changes such as race distances, conditioning regimens,
and so forth. Similarly, jockeys with excellent records can
improve the potential of even the most mediocre of horses, under
the right conditions. This is part of the reason why
professional handicappers tend to stick to a limited number of
tracks for their wagering. As they bet at particular tracks,
they become increasingly familiar with the trainers and jockeys
who work at that track, and this knowledge is taken into account
as they pick their winners.

Learning How To Read The Odds

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Winning. That’s what it’s all about. You want to place bets and rake in your winnings. You recognize that there is some risk involved but you embrace that risk and thrive on it! Otherwise, what’s the point of betting, right?

Betting really isn’t that different than investing in the stock market or driving a car: You have a goal (to make money or to go somewhere) and you have a way to do it (through a bet, an investment, or your car). Now, anyone in the world can invest or drive a car but to do so successfully - in a way that helps you arrive at your destination - takes skill.

So to bet or invest or drive a car, you need skill. What kind of skill? It’s not a secret, but not a lot of people know what that skill is. Betting is not about knowing who will win. Investing is not about knowing which stock will do well. Driving is not about knowing how the car is made. The secret is…

Information.

You need information to accurately tell you which stock is likely to go up or down and you need information to help you drive the car properly (such as where to do, how to avoid accidents, etc.) In the same way, betting is about information management: taking in information, interpreting that information, and acting on it for a purpose… and that purpose is profit. In this book you’ll learn about how you can do those three things - take in information, interpret it, and act on it - although we will specialize in just one area: interpreting the information.

You already know how to take in a lot of the information: you can read the odds, you can gather histories of the athletes and their wins and losses, you can look at the weather or the environment. All of that information will help you only if you take the next step: interpreting it.

This has been an excerpt from Robert Thatcher’s flagstaff manual, the statisticalbettingguide.com/ Statistical Betting Guide.

MySpace - The Local Bands Paradise

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Myspace has become a world wide phenomenon and a place for local bands to break out in the internet community. Thousands of bands use MySpace to market their music to record labels, music fans, and potential fans and to keep in touch with their fan base.

Before MySpace, bands gained most of their exposure through playing shows and handing out demo tapes to those who actually showed up at their shows. With MySpace, the bands demo tape is already on the page, and can include a variety of things that a demo tapes cannot offer.

A MySpace music page has all the amenities of a regular website but has faster access and is set up for beginners so it is easier to maintain. Band members can update the page with the latest news, concert photos, live songs, and information on coming shows. Band members can also maintain contact with each other through separate pages and set up times where they can practice and meet up with each other.

Even already established bands use MySpace to connect with existing fans and to market themselves to people who have yet to hear of them.

Bands like 311, or Red Hot Chili Peppers use MySpace to preview new album songs and promote upcoming shows. They also use MySpace to sell merchandise to fans which may or may not have been offered at shows or on the bands regular website. It has become obvious to record labels that the internet is one of the best ways to promote new or already existing artists. The internet reaches billions of people and MySpace is one of the biggest website on the internet today.

With Mtv being less to do with music every year, record labels have to think of new ways to get a bands music to the public. MySpace is the perfect way to get a bands name out their. Examples of bands that got popular due to MySpace include Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At The Disco. With out MySpace, these bands would still be playing local shows to a couple high school kids and not selling out arenas all around the world.

MySpace has and still is changing the way we hear music today. Gone are the days of radio and television music promotion, and welcome to the new world of easy to serve up music via MySpace.

This social community is gradually taking the internet by the hand and dragging it to the future of socialization.

Are You Physically Fit to Become a Top Fashion Model?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Welcome to your first lesson about modeling. Some of these things may seem silly and irrelevent but believe me, you NEED TO KNOW THIS!

Although I am the first to admit that there are exceptions to every rule, below you’ll find some of the attributes you need to have (or can learn) to become a model.

As in any industry, there is usually a fine line between success and failure in modeling.

To have a chance of becoming a successful model, you first need to think and act like a professional and successful person.

An example: When a weekend golfer comes to a large area of water and has to hit over it, many times the thought pops into his head, “I sure hope I don’t hit it in the water!”. As soon as he says it, the mental picture raises its ugly head visualizing his hitting the ball right in the middle of the pond.

You know what happens next?

You’re absolutely right! He hits the ball in the water!

On the other hand, a professional golfer comes to the same body of water and she visualizes the ball floating effortlessly to the other side (or on the green). Does this make sense to you?

Once you begin to see yourself as a successful model you’ll start doing the things to make it happen. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, it does require work but so does working a 9-5 job.

So, now that you’re visualizing yourself as a successful model, let’s get to some basics you must know …

The Physical Requirements of Modeling

If you plan to model, especially as a high fashion or runway model, you need the following physical attributes …

a) You need to be at least 5′8″ tall or taller

b) Your body weight and proportions need to flatter your height
c) You need to have a good skin complexion without lots of pimples or blemishes
d) Your hair should be in good shape (no excessive split-ends or over-dying damage)
e) Your teeth should be well taken care of, straight and white (a dynamite smile)
Look closely in the mirror and be honest with yourself. We all have limitations. Some of these things listed above you can work to improve and some (like height) you were born with.

Even if you don’t have all these model attributes, don’t give up hope. There are other opportunities in modeling not mentioned in this article.

Read This Article If You Just Really Want to Run Away

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Remember the Run-Away Bride? Do you ever feel like that sometimes? Many people cannot believe that she ran away like that, yet deep inside you understand why don’t you? In fact the fight or flight response is a human mechanism, which is an innate characteristic of mankind. It runs deep in the primitive part of the Homo Sapien Brain.

Some believe that this mechanism is why the human species rose above other species and took the dominant role as top of the food chain for land surface mammals. Indeed, if you feel like you just really want to run away sometimes you are not alone and that thought runs deep in all people, regardless of nationality, culture, race, age or region of the world one lives.

If you think back in some of the problems that plagued out early ancestors you can see that those who ran away, lived to fight another day. And another way to say this is to observe that those who avoided being killed by an invading army, Volcano, Typhoon, Hurricane, Tsunami, Locust Plague or wild animals hunting in packs in a region moved to safer ground and lived longer lives and had more offspring, thus this is why you are here today.

So the chances of you considering the flight response when frustrated, angered or threatened are a factor of that genetic truth and evolutionary cycle. Therefore if you really feel like you would just really want to run away, that is perfectly natural and to over come that response to such stimuli you can only do that via brainpower. Think on this.

Learn To Speak Spanish Today - 6 Tips To Help You Learn Spanish

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I know you. You have been thinking about learning Spanish for… well it’s been while now. I know. “It’s too hard.” “I don’t have time” “It will take to long.” “I took Spanish in high school and learned zip.” If it is not one of these excuses then it is another one. Well, it’s time to stop the excuses and start learning Spanish. Here are a few tips.

1) Just do it. Yeah I know a Nike shoe slogan, but it fits here. Sign up for classes at your local community college, or choose one of the quality learn-at-home products out there.

2) Get a pen pal from a Spanish speaking country, and exchange email and instant messages with this person. This will help you practice reading and writing Spanish. If you need help finding a pen pal then go to language forums on wordrefence.com. You will most likely find on there.

3) Start reading Spanish books, magazines, or newspapers. I know here in California you can find all of these resources in your local public library, but if for some reason you can’t find these at your library, I know you can get books in Spanish from online bookstores like Amazon.com. There are also many websites in Spanish on the web that you can read for free. They are not hard to find. Just enter a Spanish word or phrase into google and it will give you tons of websites in Spanish.

4) Start watching Spanish television or movies. This will help with your listening skills. Most cable and satellite providers have both Telemundo & Univison on their programming. You can also rent a variety of Spanish movies from Netflix.

5) Practice speaking Spanish with a partner. Force yourself to speak Spanish. If you can, try to find somebody who is bilingual, so they can help you with your mistakes. Yes, you will make some mistakes, but those mistakes are part of the learning process.

6) Stay Motivated. Remember learning a second language is an achievement, so stay focused on your goals.

7) Finally, and this is most important, make it fun. If it is a fun rather that a chore it will help you stay motivated and learn at a faster pace.

Hopefully with these tips, you will be on your way to learning Spanish. Good luck or buena suerte.

Did you know that most students who take Spanish classes never learn Spanish. So what product will really help you lean Spanish? On my website I list some of the better programs out there. Take a look Here: spanishwisdom.com/reviews.html spanishwisdom.com/reviews.html

The Chat Feature in Online Poker: Advantage or Disadvantage?

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The majority of Holdem poker rooms today include a chat feature allowing players to communicate with one another by typing text into a corner or along the bottom of the screen. This feature can add fun to the game and let players become friends.

There are some very positive aspects of chat in poker rooms, but there are some very negative aspects as well. Let’s look at the pros and cons of the chat feature.:

First, we will look at the favorable facts about chat. The benefits are attributes which add to the fun of the overall gaming experience when playing Holdem or any other poker variation.

Meeting new people, making new friends: Communicating with other people who have interests similar to yours is one reason to chat in Holdem rooms. After all, you already know the people playing enjoy Holdem, otherwise they wouldn’t be involved in the game. You may learn you have many other things in common and become friends outside the Holdem poker rooms. You may begin a long-term friendship whether it remains virtually-based or becomes face–to-face.

Asking questions: When are you unclear about a rule, chat is a great way to ask other players for assistance about the way to place a bet, what a term means, or get another question answered without a long search through the help section of the website.

References to other great websites with Holdem poker online: Other players know about other poker rooms with great Holdem games and good bonus programs they are usually very happy to refer you to rooms they have enjoyed just for the asking.

These are the main benefits of chat; besides the fact that chatting can be lots of fun.

Some of the main reasons to avoid chat, or at least seriously limit your participation in the chat feature are:

Distractions: It is easy to become caught up in the conversations in the chat room and place a poorly thought out wager or miss a crucial piece of information about the play and lose your wager as a result. The main reason to play Holdem is to concentrate on the play first and chat only in truly spare time.

Chatterboxes: Some people just continue to send message, seemingly on an endless basis. These chatterboxes don’t send one message and await a response; they tend to send you their whole life story in repeat messages that can be boring and unwelcome. Getting these chatterboxes to stop messaging you is difficult and often they are insulted by the suggestion that they are sending too many messages. But you have to concentrate on your game and the cards others are betting as well as the community cars in order to have any hopes of winning the pot. A simple message of congratulations upon winning a pot or a “too bad” upon losing a pot is the sort of chat you can expect and welcome.

Too many people chatting: If too many people are chatting with you at one time, you will not only be distracted from your game, you will be confused about who is saying what to you. This is detrimental to your play. Limit your chat to only one, never more than two people with whom you chat with in any single game. Never rush your responses resulting in inattention to the game play.

Beware of these pros and cons o chatting while playing Holdem and you will see your result improve. Do not allow other players to make you feel obligated to chat with them. A simple statement of “I’m sorry, I am too busy to chat” should sufficient to stop the distraction.

Blackjack Variations Introducing Guide

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The game of Blackjack is very diverse. Unlike some other games, the Blackjack player is not limited to the same game over and over. Each variation of Blackjack has its own set of rules. It’s important to know these before diving in. If you play one variation like another, you may end up losing money. Some variations are minor, but others require their own system of play. Here are a few variations from the traditional Vegas Blackjack, which comes in two forms—Downtown and Las Vegas Strip.

European Blackjack

European Blackjack is played with two decks. The dealer must stand on soft 17. Unlike the regular game of Blackjack, in European Blackjack, players can only double down on 9 and 11. This can be a severe limitation to those highly aggressive players that love doubling on just about anything when the dealer has a 5 or 6 showing. Players are not allowed to split after a splitting once nor can they double down on a split. There is no surrender option. The house has a 0.39% house advantage.

Atlantic City Blackjack

This version of Blackjack is played in a shoe with 8 decks of cards. The dealer must stand on soft 17—like and Ace and a Six. Players are allowed to double on first two cards and right after a split. Splits can be re-split to form up to 3 total hands. The dealer checks for Blackjack before the hand continues, and late surrender is allowed. Atlantic City Blackjack has 0.35% house advantage.

Double Exposure Blackjack

Many players flock to Double Exposure Blackjack, because they think the advantage is in their favor. In this variation, both dealer cards are dealt face up. Sounds great right? Ah, but here’s the rub. The dealer wins all ties except Blackjack. Here’s another. Blackjack only pays even money. There is no bonus for getting it. The game is played with a shoe and 8 decks of cards. The dealer hits on soft 17. You can re-split hands to make up to four separate hands. Here’s another downside. You can only double down on hard 9 and 11. Also, if you split aces, you get one final card on each. The house advantage on Double Exposure Blackjack is 0.69%.
