What Do You Think the 21st Century Philosophy Will Be About?

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

For those who like to study philosophy and contemplate all the mental challenges and questions that mankind has been asking himself over the last 10,000 years; I hereby ask of another challenge to think on. The question is simple and you can choose your own answer and make it so; What do you Think the 21st Century Philosophy will be about?

Intriguing isn’t it? So, what do you think the 21st Century Philosophy will be about? I have some ideas but wanted others take on it as well. Maybe your thoughts will assist others in forming there own ideas on the subject or help me in formulating my own views. The philosophical thoughts of this century will be bold and they will challenge the future.

These thoughts will be thoughts of what happens when Mankind becomes his own God? The merging of man and machine, the ethics of cloning and even the theory of everything. If you are not thinking here then you will miss the train of thought. Personally, I am looking forward to it all and I am compiling some philosophical thoughts of my own into a short work for an interesting eBook, which will be a compilation of many diverse ideas or concepts that will be fun to read for a thinking person. Perhaps even using some of this previous content as a starting point;

It would be great if you too might consider some of these thoughts and add some of your own perhaps write some articles, papers or give some of your thoughts to the rest of us as we all consider the philosophy of the 21 st Century together. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

5 Tips to Creating a Scrapbook Layout in Minutes

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Scrapbooking has just gotten easier. Have you ever gone to the scrapbook store and wandered around desperately trying to find the supplies you need? Or should I say, trying to figure it out as you go along? Then, you waste an hour or more and spend every spare penny you have. By the time you get home, you’ve wasted all the time you had just trying to figure out what you need instead of actually scrapbooking. Does this sound familiar? You bet it does, but I found a better way!

Proper planning of your layout or Album will help resolve these issues. Before you sit down to start scrappin’, if you plan out your album in advance, you will be prepared for what you need to purchase, the pictures you will use, and the way your layouts will look.

Here are 5 tips on how to create a Scrapbook layout in minutes:

1. Draw out your layout on paper. Know exactly how many pictures you will use, what pictures you will use, how the layout will be designed, where the title will be, what it will say, what embellishments you want to use and where they will be placed on the page, where the journaling block will be and what it will say, etc. **Note: if you are working on an entire album, plan the whole album in advance. This may be easier if you purchase a spiral sketch book to draw the whole album out.
2. When you go to your local scrapbook store to purchase the items you will need, bring your plan with you as well as your photos. This way you can match up any colors necessary and know exactly what you are there to buy. ** Note: If you are working on a whole album, it would be my recommendation to purchase all the supplies at once so that you can not only color coordinate but use matching embellishments as well.
3. Don’t spend more than 15 minutes in one store. If you haven’t had any luck finding what you came for within 15 minutes, you are wasting your time. Move on to the next store. Repeat this process until you find what you are looking for. If you still have no luck, start looking at online scrapbook stores.
4. Look for already prepackaged kits. These kits should already include paper, stickers, embellishments, etc. This will not only save you time, but money also.
5. If you’re not feeling inspired, save it for another day. I know if I’m not in the right mood, or if I’m not feeling creative, it takes longer to create the layout and I am often unhappy with what I’ve created. Don’t worry, later in the day or another day, you’ll find your creative self again and be scrappin’ in no time.

The next time you find yourself struggling to put a scrapbook layout or album together, try these tips. I know you’ll find yourself more organized and able to create your layouts quickly.

The Doc’s Office or Let’s Get Impersonal

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I hate doctor’s offices, don’t you? Sit in the waiting room catching God knows what. Then a nice nurse calls your name and leads you to a cold, impersonal room and has you climb up on one of those hard beds, takes your vitals and then is gone. Then you′re left to entertain yourself while the doctor visits the others left in those little rooms.

I must say, though, that these rooms have come a long way. The one I sat in on May 30, 2006 had blue paint on the walls. There is a framed picture, a reproduction of a painting in this particular room. It is of a forest path. The colors are muted to give it a soft, inviting look. The path has a few gentle turns that disappear around some trees. I like this particular picture. It brings to mind paths I’ve yet to travel in life and the ones yet hidden to me.

I was pondering all this when my doctor, Dr. Thomas McCulloh opens the door and breezes in. Notice that doctors breeze in and out of patient rooms? Anyhow, he comes in to discuss my six month checkup and the results of the bloodwork I had a week before. I’m diabetic so this is a routine I must endure. Don’t get me wrong. Dr. McCulloh has a nice manner and soft voice. He’s a good doctor. I’m just not one for doctor’s visits.

The good doctor starts going over my results. My diabetes is out of control, averaging 250 for my blood sugar. This reading is suppose to be in the 90-140 range. Now I get to take two of my regular pills per day and add two per day. Next up, my cholesterol has gone crazy.
Now Lipitor is added to my regimen. My kitchen cabinet looks like a veritable pharmacy! But wait, there’s more! He, as I’ve been for years, is concerned about my weight. I can’t stick to any eating plan and I’m gaining. He strongly suggested that I look into Lap Band surgery. Gee Doc, any good news?

He suggests a clinic in Edmond, writes out my new prescriptions and breezes out. I hate when they do that!

Big Brother 7 - Week Two

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

The Big Brother house is always unpredictable during its lengthy run and the most dangerous thing punters can do is try and pre-empt who will be up for eviction before the nominations are announced and then bet accordingly.

This very occurrence took place this week, with Grace Adams-Short seemingly in the firing line. Grace had been seen all week seemingly picking on Nikki and bitching about her behind her back and also bed-hopping between Mikey and George, before the latter left the house on his own accord.

Also, being a female in the house is usually bad news as far as eviction survival is concerned because should they go head to head with a male house member, they are usually voted out by the public, very often by a large percentage.

On the betting exchanges, Grace was trading at around 6/10 and had been as low as 1/2, making her the firm favourite to be the second person evicted from the house, but this all changed on Tuesday when it came to nominations.

Grace received just two nominations, one unsurprisingly from Nikki and the other from Glyn, who was sick of her talking about herself non-stop. Two nominations were not enough to put formerly odds-on Grace up for the public vote as Richard received four and Lea and Sezer received three each, putting the trio up for eviction instead.

Sezer, following a fortnight of arrogant behaviour, vowing to “bully” new housemates Aisleyne and Sam and having a dramatic fall-out with Richard midweek and reducing him to tears seems to have sealed his fate. He instantly became the favourite to face eviction and traded as low as 1/33 (Bet3on Friday from a high of 1/5 following the announcement of the trio up for eviction. Some lucky punter had backed Sezer at a high of 29/1 earlier on in the week while the lemmings jumped on the Grace bandwagon.

Sezer is the overwhelming favourite to leave but there could be a final twist in this tale. He could survive at the expense of Lea, who was booed considerably upon her entrance into the Big Brother house for having, as she put it, “blonde hair and big boobs”. As we established earlier, women up for eviction in the Big Brother house are in a rather precarious position.

Value hunters could be onto a winner if they back Lea at more tempting odds of 18/1 while Richard looks safe and should not be supported at comparatively massive odds of around 25/1.

The Myth of the Suffering Artist

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

There is no be-all-end-all work of art. No definitive statement will be made for all time by any of us, so let’s take things a little easier and give our muses a little space to breathe.

This is one reason why, as I writer, I favor stream-of-consciousness writing practice as a means of priming the pump. It allows me to simply tune in to whatever is wanting to come out of me at any given time. If I completely plan my work out ahead of time, I’m much more likely to be restrained by my own beliefs about what constitutes real art and what doesn’t. Any moments that we reflect upon - not just the “deep” and “serious” existential speculations - contain something universal in human experience anyway.

So then what about this sticky notion that the artist must suffer? It’s long been a cliché, this supposed truism. Addictions, suicidal temperaments, promiscuity, unbalanced behavior, misanthropy…all these things have been expected of the great creators of the human race almost as a matter of course.

It’s impossible to argue against the evidence that so many renowned artists were – or are – going off the rails. But what does pain really mean? It prompts us to seek ways to soothe or heal it. If we burn our hand on a hot stove, the pain is there to tell us to yank our hand away. It is not a negative feeling; it’s a protective measure.

Suffering, then, in the life of an artist is merely the impetus to embark upon the quest. Suffering means that the status quo has become too painful, stifling or debilitating for artists – and so they must find their own way. The fruits of this search are what inspire the rest of us, their audience. Does this mean that our artists are supposed to endure physical and spiritual penury all of their lives? No! The purpose of suffering, again, is to prompt us to learn how to heal or otherwise alleviate it. Artists who die in despair never learned how to redeem themselves with their own art; in the end, they failed to be physicians for themselves in the way that they were for so many of us.

So, in answer to the eternal question “Is it necessary to suffer in order to be an artist?” I would say: “Yes – but only at the onset.” From there, the real creative path for each of us lies in finding our own personal answer, the means to fulfill ourselves without relying upon society’s prescription for reality.

Acting Schools: Making the Choice that Is Right for You!

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Some may disagree, but I believe anyone can become a GREAT actor
with the right training.

There are so many acting schools out there that it can be really
challenging finding the one that is RIGHT for you.

There are many acting schools teaching different methods,
techniques and skills ranging from acting schools that teach
just a technique to schools that teach camera skills to schools
that focus on scene studies and then there are drama acting
schools that might be anywhere from one to three years part-time
or full-time, offering voice, movement, theatre history, camera
skills, acting skills and techniques as well as performance and
agency showcases.

Some of these drama acting schools may be highly regarded and
some may not. Often actors think they have to get into the top
acting schools to be a success and if they don’t get in then
they have failed.

But getting into the top acting schools doesn’t necessarily mean
that you are getting the training that is RIGHT FOR YOU!

Actors can go through these top acting schools and still not
come out the other end a great actor. Instead they have paid
huge fees and still feel insecure about who they are and about
their ability as an actor. They can do their showcase and not
get an agent and not get work so it’s irrelevant if they got
into the top acting schools or not.

First things are first; find the training that is RIGHT FOR YOU!
You are the one that has to live with yourself. If you feel for
some reason that you are in the wrong place LEAVE there are many
other schools and teachers out there and there is one that is
right for you to help you UNLEASH your natural instincts and
abilities as an actor.

When searching for the right school, don’t just take a place
because one is offered to you. Shop around, research the
schools, talk to graduates (not the actors at the school they
will say it’s great because it supports the fact that they are
there) ask graduates what they liked or didn’t like. Sit in on
classes where possible.

Don’t always feel like you need a drama acting school that
offers everything. You can go to one teacher for acting another
for voice and another for camera skills and so forth.

You’ll know if the school is right for you or not after a
certain amount of time there. Be honest with yourself. If you
are putting in the work and applying the techniques that they
are teaching and you feel after 6 months (less or more) that
your ability as an actor is not improving, well then consider
changing acting schools. Obviously building muscles takes time
and as an actor that’s what we do, train and build different
muscles, so I’m not saying if after a few weeks nothings changed
leave, I’m saying apply yourself and then in 6 months or a year
you really believe that you haven’t improved or the teaches are
struggling to help you, look for a school that will serve you
better.

To your acting success

Digital Online Photo Processing - What Are The Basics?

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

What is it?

Digital online photo processing is actually misleading. The photos are not processed with negatives as the word “processing” implies. When you take digital photos and store them on your computer in a usual way they are ready to be uploaded to a digital photo service. There are many companies that will print your digital photos for you online. We will mention those later in the article. The service prints your digital photos. This is the touchy part because there are some companies that will alter your photos before they are printed in their attempt to make the picture “better”. There are also companies that advertise that they will not alter or touch-up your photos.

What is the price?

Like any business the prices vary. So do the services. With a higher priced photo printer you get a lot of options such as photo albums, free photo editing software and usually a free membership that offers so many free photos when you sign up. If price is your only criteria for a photo printer you can find 4Ͷ prints for around 12 cents each. If you want other options and an overall better print quality then you can pay about 36 cents and up for the same sized print.

When do I get my photos?

This is the best part of having a professional service print your digital photos. If you want to pick them up at a location near you, or have them mailed to you almost all companies will fit your needs. If you want to pick them up within an hour of uploading them then you will have to be a little more selective in which company you choose. The only drawback is that you will sacrifice quality. If you are not a very picky person then this is a great option. If you are pickier than you are impatient then there are some great processors that will make beautiful prints but due to their location the prints will be have to be mailed.

What will they look like compared to photos that I print?

Almost all printing services can beat the quality of even the best home photo printers. Conveniently they quality also comes at a lower cost. Our studies show that the cost per photo that you print at home is 60 cents to $1.64. That is per photo! Average costs at a processor are 12 to 36 cents. Once you see the quality difference and the price having your photos processed by a pro is an easy decision to make.

Casino Games - Blackjack

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Whether you’re new to casino gaming or a casino veteran, blackjack is one of the simplest and most fun card games casinos have to offer. The objective in blackjack is to beat the dealer by getting a hand as close to 21 as possible without going over. To play casino blackjack, you need only a basic understanding of the rules and a desire to have fun.

So how do you reach 21? In blackjack, the cards have values. Number cards two through ten are counted at face value, while all face cards (King, Queen and Jack) are worth ten points. The ace is a special card in blackjack: you decide whether it’s worth one or eleven points. Since casino players are dealt two cards to start, if you get an ace and a face card or ten, you have 21—an instant win, as long as the dealer doesn’t get 21 as well. This two-card winning hand is called a “blackjack”; hence the name of the game!

Casino rules for blackjack are basically the same at all casinos. After you get your first two cards, your options are to hit, stand, double down, split, or sometimes surrender. Hit means to take another card stand means to keep what you have. A double down means you will double your bet in exchange for taking only one more card (you can draw up to five cards in blackjack). If your first two cards are the same value, you can split, or separate them and play each card as a different hand. Not all casinos offer the option to surrender, which means you would withdraw from the hand and receive half your bet back.

When you play blackjack at a casino, be sure to know which table to choose. Most casinos have color coded blackjack tables according to the minimum bet the table accepts, usually $3, $5, $25 or $100. In any casino, it’s a given the $3 and $5 tables will be crowded, but they’re great for beginners at casino games because all of the cards are dealt face-up, as opposed to the one-up, one-down method at higher tables. So the next time—or the first time—you visit a casino, make a stop at the blackjack tables and aim for 21!

Pictures Of Musical Instruments

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

There are hundreds of different kinds of musical instruments in the world. Almost every country has its own traditional music and musical instruments that have been developed over the centuries. Each musical instrument has its own melody, pitch, rhythm, timbre, loudness, and duration, as well as the notes and chords.

Musical instruments can be classified on the basis of the kind of instrument: chordophones (strings), aerophones (woodwinds and brasses), idiophones (percussion), and membranophones (drums). Stringed instruments or chordophones are those that produce sounds when a string is plucked or strummed. The kind of sound produced depends on the mass of the string, length of the vibrating portion of the string, tension in the string, and the point at which the string is strummed apart from the kind of resonating cavity in the instrument. Viola, violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, harp, lute, banjo, balalaika, koto, ukulele, etc. are some of the string instruments.

Woodwinds and brasses generate music when air enters the instrument by blowing. This air vibrates inside the instrument in a particular frequency, thus producing sound. The kind of music depends on the method of tone production, the shape of the instrument, the length of the column of air in addition to the construction of the instrument. Flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, horn, mouth organ, saxophone, and bassoon are some of the winds instruments, while the French horn, tuba, trumpet, and trombone are brass instruments.

Percussion instruments produce sounds when struck. The size of the instrument along with the shape of the resonating cavity determines the sound produced. Some percussion musical instruments include the cymbals, the snare drum, bells, gong chime, xylophone, the bass drum, maracas, castanet and the timpani.

Drums include the goblet drums, the barrel drum, the frame drum, the tambourine, and the friction drum. Other kinds of musical instruments are the piano, keyboards, organ, harpsichord, and the Glockenspiel. Each of these musical instruments has sub-categories within them. Musical instruments can also be categorized on the basis of their playing levels—some are suitable for all kinds of players while some are meant only for beginners.

Pictures of musical instruments can be found at most music stores that sell musical instruments. Since musical instruments are selected based on the model, it is not possible to have all the models in the store. Hence, most dealers have pictures of some instruments to select from. Pictures are also found in advertisements and classifieds. There are several websites that have attractive and colorful pictures of musical instruments. They also feature exhaustive information about the product. Most of the pictures can also be downloaded on the computer, or they can be viewed online. Having these pictures helps the buyer to make a better choice when ordering the instrument. Pictures are especially useful for locating a particular kind or rare kinds of musical instruments.
