Mark Bishop’s “Abundant Sunshine” Shows Southern Gospel Singer-Songwriter At His Best

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Mark Bishop is Southern Gospel music’s best singer-songwriters. During his time with the Bishops and as a soloist, Mark has been providing Southern Gospel music fans with top-notch music. His latest release, “Abundant Sunshine” out shines even his highly regarded last album, “Everyday” which was nominated for a Dove Award for Country Album of the Year and produced several Southern Gospel hits as well.

Mark Bishop wrote all eleven songs on “Abundant Sunshine”. “As a Southern Gospel song writer, I’ve got to much to say and after 23 years of marriage, I can’t get anybody else to listen.” Mark laughs.

“Abundant Sunshine” is a Southern Gospel album that is centered around the promise of a better day, heaven, that we have in Christ. “In Christian music you hear a lot about when you’re going though trials or hard times about ‘walking in the valley’ or ‘being under the clouds’ or ‘on the stormy seas’”, Mark remarks. “Of course in your Christian walk, as you endeavor through life and you face trials and hardships and worries and concerns, for the Christian there is always the promise that we have abundant sunshine waiting for us on the other side. The promise that we are going to have a dawn after the long dark night.”

A Southern Gospel Album With A Theme

The eleven songs on Mark Bishop’s, “Abundant Sunshine” album are centered around a theme. “As you listen to this album it has a continuity to it.”, Mark states. “ It begins with ‘Abundant Sunshine Part One’, then there are a lot of songs that take you through the journey of being a Christian. Then when you get to the end, there’s kind of a celebration of arriving at that abundant sunshine”.

Some of my favorite songs on “Abundant Sunshine” include the story songs “Written On A Tree” and “This Is Where Needed Things Are Found”. Both songs highlight Mark’s incredible song writing skill. “Put Wings Upon Your Problems” is another song about prayer in the lines of “Jesus Listens” and “Can I Pray For You”. “Put Wings Upon Your Problems” is “just one more song about prayer because prayer is real present and heavy in my heart right now trying to raise my daughters”, Mark laughs.

Mark Bishop has been growing into one of Southern Gospel and Country music’s finest artists. With “Abundant Sunshine” he arrives.

To My Friend, With Love

Friday, June 30th, 2006

All is still; all quiet;
The world seems to be at peace.
My soul is singing its rhythmic melody
And I’m led like in a trance to write its tunes.
The lyrics are for you.
The essence of friendship.

I have what so many people in this world
Yearn so desperately for: a friend.
A friend who’s closer to me than skin
And worth more than life itself.

You have shared in my pain, as has no other
And touched my wounded spirit
With tender expressions of compassion.
Your heart bled when you felt my grief;
Your empathy and sensitivity
Transmitted affection no words ever could.

Your unfailing loyalty has been inexhaustible,
Regardless of what it may have cost you
Personally.
You have made great sacrifices
On my behalf
Unconditionally.

You accepted me as I was and am
Appreciating my strengths,
Challenging my weaknesses,
Guarding my vulnerabilities,
Accepting my imperfections,
Valuing my humanity.

You have buttressed the arrows
People often shot in my direction;
Willingly absorbing suffering
Meant for me.

Adversaries tried to put a wedge between us
To no avail;
Our friendship too secure,
Our commitment too strong

Our friendship has been tested
In so many diverse ways,
But we have a love and strength of will
That refuses to let go.
Though sometimes charred, we healed,
And discovered a closer union in the process.

I’m possessive of our friendship
Because I know how rare it is
And how difficult to find
And keep.

You have earned the greatest title
That can be bestowed
Upon any human being.
The title of: Friend.

In friendship honor of Marjorie K. Thomas

Casino Gambling Tips

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Whether casino gambling rookies or seasoned casino gamblers, most people are always on the lookout for casino gambling tips. There are many people who seem to do well at casinos, and these people are usually “lucky” because they have listened to the right advice about casino gambling, or have learned or developed gambling systems that seem to work well.

What are the best casino gambling tips? The first and best gambling tip is to not gamble more than you can afford to lose. This may seem obvious, but there are many examples of people whose lives have been changed for the worse because they did not know when to quit gambling. Although you may not necessarily lose your home or family because you’ve gambled too much, just losing enough to not be able to pay one of your monthly bills is a signal that you need to reassess how you gamble, or that you need to quit gambling altogether.

Gambling problems aside, there are tips that can make your responsible casino gambling more enjoyable, and possibly more profitable. Many serious gamblers choose one, or usually no more than two, games to focus on, and develop strategies that seem to give them more of an edge. Since games such as Poker and Blackjack require skill as well as luck if you want to win more than you lose, many serious gamblers concentrate on these games, honing their skills continuously and developing systems and strategies that they feel work well for them. Many highly successful Blackjack and Poker players have written books that contain many of the gambling tips and strategies that they have developed over the years, and reading some of these books can be a great place to start if you would like to win some serious money playing these casino games.

Although slot machines are random and no special skill is required to make them spin, some successful gamblers claim that you can get a slight edge on slot machines by counting the spins. You count how many times the machine spins until it pays out at least five times your bet, write that down, and then count again. You do this about 6 times, and then concentrate on the second highest number that you have written down. Using this as the key number, you bet higher when the machine reaches that number, until it pays off. Many gamblers swear that this system works better than just betting the same amount each time and hoping you’ll hit it big. Though many land-based casinos frown on people writing down spins, it can easily be done when playing in an online casino from home.

Digital Camera Information

Digital Camera Software

A combination of a digital camera, a color scanner and image manipulation software is highly recommended. The software digital camera software that is included also provides professional level workflow solutions for seamless use.

Most of the software is designed for digital camera users, compatible with most current digital camera models.

photo editing software & photo printing software that’s renown for its ease of use. At last there’s easy-to-use digital camera software for both home and business users.

Image

The image sensor employed by most digital cameras is a charge coupled device (CCD). Some current digital camera models store combinations of video (MPEG or AVI movies), image sequences or sound. Although Canon’s images are slightly better, the Casio is an ultra-thin, sleek digital camera that doesn’t sacrifice overall image quality.

Easy-to-understand information about digital cameras, accessories, image editing and more. Image quality depends on the resolution of the digital camera. To make image files smaller almost every digital camera uses some form of compression. This EasyShare digital camera%u2019s resolution of 5 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and an all-glass lens combine for amazing image detail and clarity.

With an image stabilizer, this digital camera produces clear, even images even in shaky conditions. Resolution is the most talked about digital camera characteristic and is often used to describe image quality.

If you have the option, choose optical rather than digital image stabilization in your camera. It is probably the best digital camera made and produces image quality that rivals medium format film (e.g., 6×6cm Hasselblad).

Image processing for single-sensor digital camera: a mathematical challenge This entry is from Wikipedia, the leading user-contributed encyclopedia. A typical slave unit will fire on the pre-flash it senses while the digital camera captures the image on the last flash. The image quality available from digital cameras is astonishingly good.

Film

In fact, a digital camera is better quality than a film camera in many important respects! The digital cameras enjoy the advantage of a built-in digital signal processor that your roll of film doesn’t have.

Add an external or speed light flash to your digital camera or film camera. Many digital cameras are comparable to a 35 mm camera in price without the extra added cost of buying or developing film. Back to top Printing pictures Unlike with film cameras, you can print digital photos at home.

Is considering laying off the development of new film cameras as it focuses resources on its digital camera business. Though digital cameras don’t use film, they have adopted the same rating system for describing the sensitivity of the camera’s imaging sensor. So far, very few digital cameras have been produced with a receptor using the full size of 35mm film.

Whether you’re using film or a digital camera, bring a sturdy tripod. Shooting with a digital camera is somewhat like shooting slide film. A couple years ago, I got into the digital camera thing to the point that I pretty much parked my roll film cameras. The digital camera scenario is similar in that mega pixels are similar to film size. To design and build a high performance digital cine camera with the quality of 35mm film and convenience of a camcorder.

Quality

The quality of your pictures can be enhanced by the digital camera accessory you choose. You’ll find quality brands of digital cameras, 35mm cameras, lenses, video cameras, memory cards and camera accessories at great prices. An easy to use quality digital camera purchase will be fully used by staff and students. However, not all digital cameras can produce prints of the same quality. I wanted a go-anywhere high quality digital camera that’s user-friendly with both auto & manual controls. At the cheaper end of the digital camera scale, the quality can be remarkable for the price.

Buy

It is better to buy a digital camera with a 100% glass lens for the best pictures. Many retailers advertise their best buy digital camera as one with a plastic lens. You should also look for the best buy digital camera packages with the most RAM that you can afford. A lot of unscrupulous retailers will advertise a price for a best buy digital camera but then charge high shipping costs.

Finally, ensure that you have accounted for any shipping costs before you make your final decision over which best buy digital camera you purchase. There%s never been a better time to buy a digital camera. Having to buy re-chargeable batteries and a charger will typically add from $20 to $100 to the cost of your digital camera.

As a person constantly taking photos I made this page as a lot of people keep asking me what digital camera they should buy. Find discount computers, cheap digital camera, buy digital cameras. Try before you buy - I’ve always been a firm believer that you should handle a digital camera before you buy it.

Size

Experienced digital camera users know pixel size isn’t everything. The small size and versatility allow easy integration of digital cameras into all parts of the curriculum. If you care more about price and features than compact size, choose a standard size digital camera.

There are three basic “sizes” of digital cameras, and knowing what size camera suits your needs will make your search much simpler. For digital SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses it’s more difficult as different cameras have different size sensors. This is why I am currently looking for an extra digital camera featuring a minimal size combined with a maximum amount of useful features.

These are about the size of a matchbook and used in digital cameras made by Nikon, Canon, Kodak and many others. When choosing a digital camera you have to think about the resolution of the pictures, size and memory. A larger inner diameter makes the L-Ring 3200 perfect no matter the lens size of your digital camera. This has nothing to do with your camera being digital it is entirely a result of smaller frame size.

Video

Webcams are digital cameras attached to computers, used for video conferencing or other purposes. However, modern digital photography cameras have a video function, and a growing number of camcorders have a still photography function. Modern compact digital cameras are typically multifunctional, with some devices capable of taking photographs, video, and/or sound.

Classification Digital cameras can be classified into several groups: Video cameras Professional video cameras such as those used in television and movie production. Some digital cameras have direct video out….. Another alternative, although not directly a digital one, would be to purchase one of the analog peephole video cameras.

Lens

The super multi layer lens coating reduces flare and ghost, a common problem with digital cameras. The vast majority of digital cameras are “point-and-shoot” models with a single, non-interchangeable lens. Because auto focusing in most digital cameras is done through the lens, the focus shift is automatically taken care of. Focus and Exposure: Fixed-focus digital cameras have a lens that is preset to focus at a certain range. These depend on the actual (as opposed to relative) diameter of the lens aperture, which makes them especially painful for digital cameras.

Memory

You can find a memory card reader or extra battery to keep your digital camera powered up for any circumstance. Some professional digital cameras and memory card readers connect to the computer over FireWire. SD is now the most popular type of digital camera memory. Many types of memory cards are available for use with your digital camera. Files deleted from PC, digital camera or memory stick can be restored with high speed and reliability. When using your digital camera to make movies it is also very important to have ample Flash Memory on hand too.

Battery

All digital cameras can run on rechargeable batteries of one of two types: an expensive battery pack or a set of AA batteries. A battery is taped to the inside cover of the box that the Olympus digital camera came in. Take a few moments to look around, keep your camcorder, digital camera or laptop computer working like new with a fresh battery today! The Digital Camera Battery can power two devices at the same time and has adjustable outputs that match each device automatically.

The Islamic Deception

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Google the phrase “Muslim violence,” and more than 29 million entries pop up. Granted, some of these citations represent violence committed against Muslims, but, unfortunately, quite a few represent violence committed in the name of Islam.

This makes me wonder: What does Islam really stand for? I hear a great deal about Muslims who do not believe in violence. Yet, it seems that this is a troubling form of faith that rewards people for committing acts of violence.

Imagine if Klansman David Duke claimed he was part of the Ku Klux Klan but was not a racist—that he just liked wearing sheets. Wouldn’t that be a little hard to accept as a credible concept?

While it may seem outrageously politically incorrect to do so, a number of individuals are openly questioning whether the Muslim religion is truly a religion of peace. Some of these individuals are disaffected Muslims who feel as if they were sold a bill of goods by Islamic leaders. They believe they were betrayed—and they worry that others may be hoodwinked into believing that the Islamic faith is one of peace, love, and harmony.

Islamic regimes have been responsible for major human rights violations, especially against religious minority groups and women. Even some Muslims openly admit the religion has a history of violence—at least dating back to the 12th century. While some Muslims have openly called for a peace movement within their religion, the fact of the matter is that, year after year, the news pages are filled with instances of Muslim violence.

Another important thing to keep in mind here is that lying is actually sanctioned within the Islamic religion. As Islam spreads throughout the West, Americans need to be particularly vigilant, recognizing the fact that Muslim activists may try to deceive us into believing that they do not endorse violence, when their actions say otherwise. A number of Muslims artfully neglect to mention the more controversial aspects of Islamic writings and teachings.

For instance, the Koran is often quoted selectively to indicate that the religion stands for peace and tolerance. But after Mohammed migrated to Medina, the Koran became filled with passages showing not only prejudice and intolerance, but the endorsement of violence.

For example, Mohammed, a supposed prophet of peace, commanded his army to kill a Jewish tribe. Obviously, killing is the most extreme form of violence one can engage in, and it is appalling that a religious leader would sanction what can euphemistically be described as ethnic cleansing. The Koran contends that the “only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land.” Such lines of text could never be confused with the lyrics to “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

It’s hard to reconcile such writings with the popular image of Islam as a peace-loving religion that is being unfairly attacked. The fact is, the media are often complicit in this deception. News reports suggest that violence is perpetrated by extremists or fundamentalists, leading the average Westerner to believe that mainstream Islam does not condone any form of violence.

Because of Islam’s traditional acceptance of lying, it’s entirely possible that, when Islamic leaders speak, they are not speaking the unadulterated truth. In fact, they may say one thing and believe something entirely different.

In the end, by their fruits you will know them—and, regrettably, the fruits of Islam are often destruction, violence and death.

Historic Nicknames Don’t Tell It All

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

What can we tell from the names given historical characters? Well, Harold Bluetooth didn’t have a blue tooth, but William the Bastard, technically, was. But, what of Ethelred? Ethelred II, The Unready was king of England between 968 to 1016. When he was seven years old, his father, King Edgar, died, and his half-brother, Edward II (the Martyr), became king. At ten, after Edward was murdered, Ethelred succeeded him to the thrown.

In 1013, because of Viking invasions, Ethelred fled to wikipedia.org/wiki/Normandy” target=”_blank Normandy, seeking protection from his brother-in-law, wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Robert_of_Normandy&action=edit” target=”_blank Robert of Normandy. He married the daughter of Richard I, Duke of Normandy whose great-nephew, William (the Bastard) of Normandy, used this relationship as the basis of his claim to the throne of England in 1066.

But why was he called The Unready? Turns out it doesn’t mean that he was ill-prepared. Unready derives from the wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Saxon” target=”_blank Anglo-Saxon word unraede which means lacking counsel. The people felt that Ethelred wasn’t able to make any decisions on his own. He relied heavily on the Witan council which wasn’t all that good an idea. So, his reign was plagued by poor advice, and it didn’t help that he was suspected of being involved in his brother Edward’s murder.

Speaking of William the Bastard, which he was, having been born out of wedlock, he was the illegitimate son of Duke Robert I of Normandy and the daughter of a tanner. Ordinarily, that would have been the end of it, but when his father died, William was recognized as the heir to the title, which was a rather important exception to the general rule that bastards can’t succeed - to the title, that is. At 15, he was knighted, and in 1066, he became William I or William the Conqueror - a step up from being a Bastard.

About this blue tooth; King Harald Blatand was a 10th century Danish king whose name translated into English means blue tooth. So, it wasn’t a physical description - only a family name. His father was Grom the Old, though we don’t know if it was because of his age of sagacity, and his son was Sweyn Forkbeard although there’s no solid evidence that he had a forked beard.

Was Ivan the Terrible so terrible? Probably not in the way we use terrible as a pejorative that indicates being harsh or fearsome. Ivan’s name, in Russian, was Grozny. The original meaning of that word is closer to the English awesome or formidable. Maybe Ivan the Fearsome was what the people had in mind after his impressive success in battle and not because of how he treated his subjects. Still, we can’t ignore his shortcomings. Toward the end of his reign, his personal militia terrorized the country, and he was known to have tortured and executed thousands of his subject. So, however you translate it, maybe he was pretty terrible after all.

On the other hand, I think the names Jack the Ripper, Typhoid Mary, and Vlad the Impailer pretty much say it all.

Brick - DVD Review

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

An interesting plot where students of a contemporary high school start acting like characters from the 1940s crime files. It looks like a stunt attempted by a fresher but the interesting part is that it makes the movie interesting to watch. Rian Johnson is the debuting director and screenwriter and pours all his passion into Brick. Maybe that’s what makes the movie so good. Johnson has taken a deep plunge into the world of grit and crime with a bunch of high school kids. He has risked ridicule in doing so as there are some moments in the movie where he loses his grip and his pitch but you have to admire this young movie maker for his guts.

Joseph Gordon stars as Brendan, the guy with a motive to rescue his girl (Emilie de Ravin) from the drug peddlers. His acting talent is as sensational in this movie as in Mysterious Skin. He meets his girl and finds a scrap of paper in the diary she leaves behind by mistake. The scar of paper has a code written on it, he starts playing detective with the help of his friend, the brain (Matt O’Leary). In his endeavor, he ultimately succeeds in finding the Pin (Lukas Haas), a drug dealer who lives with his mother but doesn’t let that affect his business, of course.

Steve Yedlin successfully gives the film a seductive hint of danger that attracts us to this plot. The movie moves on like a dream and end leaving you wanting for more.

For a Bowl of Soup [a Short Story of Murder in Lima]

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Advance: I have considered it advisable to alter the names—in one case, more of a deletion of part of a name—of the principal characters in this story; a venal sin at best. In any case, names matter little if the source of the story reflects the truth that resides under the situation, and the reader will surely recognize the characters true identity should they wish to.

Twenty-five years have past since this took place. Upon my inquire into this, I talked to the psychologist that was involved with the case, and asked why he did what he did, and his answer was, “For a bowl of soup, I gave up my career.” Nicely put I thought at the time. For after he killed his patient, there were no more murders in Lima, Peru. But I am getting ahead of my story. Let’s go back twenty-five years or so, in this reproduced historical fiction narrative (an enactment of what may have taken place prior to his arrest).

It was a hot summer’s day in Lima, Peru, the late 1970s, not sure why I was there, a place to be I suppose as good as any other place. All I heard about was of a string of murders, and the police were finding body parts all over the city. It had nothing to do with me but I couldn’t help wondering how it woud be, being chopped up alive and my body parts buried all over the city, and all of a sudden, someone finding an arm or leg and saying: “Hay, look here!” They were all talking about this mass murder they nicknamed: “The Butcher of Lima.”

I confess, I couldn’t think of anything worse in the world.

I kept hearing about the Butcher, the Butcher, over the radio, the television, at the cafés and reading about him in the newspapers, as if there was no other news. He was the star of Lima, a celebrity. So no wonder I couldn’t get him out of my mind.

Lima had their own troubles, without this guy I thought, and enough was enough. It was 11:00 AM in the morning. I came out of a sweaty dream; as macabre as they get. As I went to fetch a taxi to go eat at the café I normally go to in Miraflores, the streets were hot as a pistol that had just been shot. The dust from the wind was being swirled about and thrown in my direction.

I had eggs and lamb-chops for breakfast and behind the face of Marybell, my waitress—a young mother, with two twin sons, quite pretty—she, like most everyone in Lima, quivered as I opened up the paper to see the dirty deeds the Butcher may have done the night before. I moved the paper a bit, didn’t stare at it too long, thinking other people would think I liked reading such horrid crap, yet everyone was doing the same thing. Thus, I did not leave the page his dirty deeds were on exposed too long.

(I knew something was wrong, my senses told me so, told me these ongoing sprees of murders were too uncomfortable for me to just let it go; for the whole city was up in a stir over it. Thus, I walked the park area in Miraflores, kind of drifting, as I did the same in the Plaza de Armas a few miles away trying to think if I should seek out my friends at the hotel and probe more into this matter.)

I was supposed to have a long vacation, and a kind of working one also. I often tucked them both in-together. I was trying to finish up a book that really was not concerned with a mass murderer case. But this was becoming a preoccupation for me, nonetheless. I got some exposure being an American writer in Lima, and a presentation on my previous book at a local bookstore. Thus, I had some newspaper coverage, along with a television interview, and a quick lecture at a university. This got the attention of my fellow comrades at the hotel, and especially in the barroom; the writers and reporters whom were supposed to be covering this case: that being, The Butcher of Lima.

“Just look at what’s going on in this country,” said one of the customers in the barroom of the hotel. “We can’t walk the streets anymore at night!” I didn’t really want to get into buying their grief, not for myself, or them. I just wanted to go my marry-Ol-way; you know, from typewriter to typewriter, and from to hotel, to hotel; and leave the grisly stuff for them.

There were six of us at the hotel, writers and reporters that I got to know or so they all said they were of this breed. In any case, we talked bout the case at hand, of the Butcher that it would be good news should one of us find out who he was and expose him. For myself, I informed them, I did not want to reap the benefits of discovering him, l liked the laze fare status. None of them seemed to eager also in investigating this case too close, although all their expenses were paid by their employer: two fellows from New York City, another from Chicago, and still another from Detroit; and yet still another from Lima itself; and I from little old St. Paul, Minnesota.

So there were six of us at the hotel on the same floor; room to room, all facing one another; three rooms on one side and three on the other. It reminded me of an army barracks: beds and rooms piled next to one another. Oddly, it was a hotel where women, single women were not on the same floor as us. And the wealthy were above us. I saw them as I’d leave the hotel on the sunroof, yawning and stretching, trying to wipe the drunken night away.

Diaz

It came to be, Diaz troubled me.

I never knew a man like him.

I’m not sure where he came from, perhaps Peruvian, so it seemed at the time. He had a thin face, long tongue, it always seemed to block his breathing, and when he opened his mouth it was there before his teeth were. He had bright black hair. His mouth kind of had an arrogant sneer to it, as if the world was dumber than he, and he could out-wit them, should he wish to at any given moment.

Diaz singled me out right away when I arrived at the hotel. He kind of made me feel smarter than the rest of the media at the hotel. He‘d sit next to me at the bar as we all sat down and talked about what was news worthy, and he’d say to me under his breathe, a whisper sort of, he’d say some witty sarcastic remark.

He was conscious, and critical of the others for not being able to find this mass murder, as if he could, should he try. But he was as indolent as the rest. Yet I said nothing to that effect, let it rest where it lay I told myself. Let me repeat myself, he was not impressed with the lot at the hotel, me included, he once said, “…you’re all elaborate decadence that are attracted to the puss of life.” Oh well, so be it I told myself, maybe he was right. We all seem to be somewhat magnetic when it comes to gangsters and murders, making them into celebrities if not heroes somewhere down the road. As I said, I left well enough alone, and just wondered if he fell into his own category. Or was he too close to the mountain to see.

He had an interesting smile, which stuck to him by some kind of mesmeric force. It reminded me of a charismatic preacher that could change his moods to suite the sermon.

“You know my friend,” he’d say, “No one gives a damn how this story will end, as long as the expenses are paid for.”

Diaz lit a cigarette, blow smoke into my face, I moved away from it a ting.

“You see how easy it is to make you move,” he said with an excited veil gust of air from his stomach.

“I bet your ex-wife could control every move you made,” he added with assurance to his countenance.

—The city and summer did not do much for getting me a tan, I looked as grim as any gringo could, as white that is, as white as a ghost. The many conversations with Diaz made me a bit cynical if not, downright witty with sneer wisdom at my fingertips at times.

I didn’t know what was going to happen down the road, but I knew perfectly well, Diaz would make something happen, call it military intuition. He showed uncommon tendencies toward danger. He walked across streets as if no car could hit him. He sat in window sill as if he was not capable of falling out of them. The list goes on but he had blue blood I do believe.

Morning at the Café

One night I didn’t join Diaz in the barroom, and as I read the morning paper at my familiar café in Miraflores the following morning, my insides went suddenly numb, and the look on my face must had been twice as dumb looking. Marybell nodded to me, wanting to know if I had wanted to order breakfast, as I sat back in my chair in the outside café—informally; her eyes followed mine back to the paper, it was wide open on the table, I was speechless. She glanced back at me after looking and started laughing.

The laughter should have told me, but I said, “What’s so funny?”

The traffic around the café was moving slowly, horns being honked as usually, but I didn’t really hear all that much. I was sitting tight.

“Well,” I remarked.

“That’s your friend Diaz—he’s…he’s the ‘Butcher!” She was internally in a panic I could see.

To this very day I can’t remember what I said, or even if I was smiling. I think I tried to, which is kind of natural for me. All I remember was the terrible silence that thumped inside of me, until someone said, “Hay you!” which woke both myself and Marybell up, and out of our trance like state.

1960’s Christmas Movies: 4 Classic Cartoons

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

With upbeat music, colorful images and memorable characters, the 1960’s Christmas movies are very fun to watch!

Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, premiered in 1964 as an animated TV special. Rudolph becomes an outcast when everyone discovers his unusual red nose. He runs away with fellow misfit Hermey the elf who wants to be a dentist. Rudolph finally wins the heart of his girlfriend, family and Santa himself when he saves Christmas from a blinding snowstorm with his bright shiny nose. Burl Ives narrates and sings some of the songs.

The following year A Charlie Brown Christmas brought the characters of the favorite Sunday comic strip to life on the small screen. Charlie Brown finds the commercialism of Christmas disheartening as even his dog competes for the flashiest doghouse. Linus teaches his friends a lesson about the origins of Christmas as he quotes the manger story from the Bible. Original music by Vince Guaraldi complements classic Christmas carols.

Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas was next in 1966. In the tradition of the classic Dickens Scrooge character, the Grinch is mean, nasty and most of all hates Christmas. He has a dastardly plan to steal the holiday from a village of “Who’s” in the valley near his cave-like home. The combination of Dr. Seuss’s text, animation by the legendary Chuck Jones, original songs, and Boris Karloff’s narration made this an instant classic.

Finally the decade came to a close with Frosty the Snowman in 1969. The story focused more on winter rather than the holiday itself and appealed to a younger audience. While not generally as highly regarded by today’s audiences, this cartoon was unique for its time.

These classic 1960’s Christmas movies continue to inspire and entertain us today. Watch one of these special films with family and friends and feel the spirit of the season come to life!

Negative or Positive Art

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

It is the right of every human being to breathe, and live his/her life with freedom of speech and respect for religious preferences. As a member of a society and a Nation, it is the responsibility of every individual to respect one another in all ways possible.

For a free society to live in harmony and peace, respect for all races, respect for all religions with out discrimination, is the path every individual needs to tread to bring about world peace. It is the ground work for creating equilibrium in every free society.

The Power of the Arts

Why do we make our energies do things that may harm other humans? Why
produce acts against humanity through negative art and create violence in our World?
Art is so powerful and we are using it not to promote Peace and Harmony, but to destroy them.

So if we take a more focused look, we can say that art can and does
affect the life of an individual. Why not use art in its good and
positive perspective as it is given to us by God? Why not use Art’s
Positive Power and heal the World?

This is what I believe. Through my music I always try and give this
message of peace. Music has the power to deliver a sense of inner peace
and harmony within our selves and our world. As this sense of inner
peace grows it is reflected in our outer world as well. Peace is our
world will not come until we find peace within ourselves.

I always give this simple example: A knife in the hands of a killer,
kills. A knife in the hands of a surgeon saves a life. It is not the
knife itself that is good or bad, it is its usage. The same applies to
Art. If it is used in a good manner its effects uplift humanity.

So I see Art/Music as a synchronization tool for souls. Let us
synchronize our souls with one another and work to create a peaceful
world for the upcoming generations. A world where individuals of every religion are given respect. Where the arts are not used in a negative manner. Where there are no political, racial or religious borders.

As artists, we have a big responsibility to use our art forms in a
positive powerful way to heal our world and object to any artwork or
music that may cause emotional turmoil or violence in any way to any
individual. Let us all as Artists unite for Peace.
