Friday, April 28th, 2006

If your birth date falls in the range of August 22nd through September 22nd, you were born under the sun sign of Virgo the Virgin. You probably know your Horoscope, but did you know that Numerology shows us a particular behavior for Virgo based on your specific Date of Birth? We can find out this modifier by calculating your Birth Day number.

Birth Day Calculation

Your Birthday number is the date of the month you were born on, reduced to a single digit by fadic addition. For example, actor Bill Murray was born on September 21st, 1950, so his Birthday number is (3) as shown below.

Birthday = (Day part of your birth date) = (21) = (2 1) = (3)

The Birth Day number values, and their affects on your Virgo Horoscope are shown below.

Birth Day (1) - Mature

You have a mature outlook on life; much too practical for your age. You also tend to be less selfish that people think you are.

Birth Day (2) - Exacting

You tackle every task with extreme care and meticulous effort. You also have a very sensual nature, and like pleasures of the senses very much indeed.

Birth Day (3) - Prude

You carry modesty to extremes. Learn to lighten up a little it will make you less irritable and your kids will like you for it.

Birth Day (4) - Know it All

You tend to assert your opinions as absolute facts, and really resent it when people challenge you to prove them. You can be down right cranky when people tease you about things.

Birth Day (5) - Slob

You must fight a tendency to be sloppy and untidy in your appearance and your personal space. Take a little time to clean up once in a while.

Birth Day (6) - Hypochondriac

You need to guard against the tendency to imagine that you are seriously ill. Try to find releases for stress and anxiety. Possibly a health kick would be good for you.

Birth Day (7) - Unemotional

You appear cold and without emotion to people. Learn to smile a little more. Also, the occasional demonstration of your feelings about things is ok. Work on showing emotion once in a while.

Birth Day (8) - Low Self-esteem

You have the outward appearance of self-confidence, but it is a mask. You must fight with the demons of lack of self-confidence when they appear. Work on learning to trust yourself more. Ask your loved ones for an honest opinion and take their words to heart.

Birth Day (9) - True Love

You may seem cold and aloof with most partners, but when the right person comes along you are a real lover. A strong sexual nature lurks beneath the surface just waiting to be called forth.

Photography Equipment

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Photography is one of the most expensive hobbies that a person can get into. In addition to the camera, one will also have to buy films and spend for the developing. And as you become more enmeshed with the activity, you will probably be adding a list of different add ons for your camera or even buy special cameras that perform specific tasks.

One of the most common add-ons that professional and even amateur photographers spend their money on is the lens. This is one of the most basic parts of the camera and yet the most crucial. There are different kinds of lens that function according to the needs of the photographer.

Most cameras especially those that are used by professionals have the option to interchange or add lens. There are actually to main types, the fixed focal lenses, which are also called the prime lenses and the zoom, which is primarily used to alter the focal length and lets you take shots of objects that are really far away.

Wide angle lens, for instance, will allow you to take photos within short distances. This is ideal in photoshoots that are done with limited space. With a wide angle lens, the photographer need not walk backwards to be able to get the whole image. Telephoto lens, on the other hand, will allow you to narrow down the angle of view. This is also called the long focus lens because it allows one to take pictures in long distances. One kind is the short telephoto lens that are especially great with pictures from head and shoulders. This is why it is also called portrait lens.

Another kind of lens is the zoom lens, which come in different focal lengths. You should remember that there are zoom lens that can also function as a telephoto or wide-angle lens. This is why some photographers invest in good zoom lens instead of buying separate lens. In addition to the convenience in price, buying zoom lens will also lessen the equipment that you have to carry.

Other equipments that a photographer have to invest in are tripods and of course a good camera case that will protect it from all kinds of weather. Tripods are used to minimize the shakiness of the camera that will result in blurred or double images. For personal use, tripods are handy if the photographer also want to be included in the photo.

Numerology’s Personal Day; When to Start That Important Job

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Ever have one of those days when everything goes right for you? When you make that presentation, or interview for that job and you can do no wrong; everything just clicks. Numerology can predict those days for you, those days when the universe is on your side. We call those days ‘Personal days’.

Calculating your Personal Days

To determine if a particular day is a Personal Day for you, we need to calculate the Universal Day number for a particular day and then compare it to your Life path number. The Universal day number is calculated by adding all the digits of the Gregorian date together via faddic addition to get a single digit.

For example, Valentines day 2007 is a Universal day (7). The calculation is:

2 14 2007 = 2023 = 2 0 2 3 = 7.

Your Life Path is calculated by adding all the digits of your date of birth with faddic addition:

(For example Johnny Depp, born June 9th, 1963 ; 6 9 1963 = 1978 = 1978 = 25 = 7)

When the Universal day number equals your Life Path number, then the day is a ‘Personal Day′ for you; the universe is literally in step with you that day. So, Johnny Depp had a ‘Personal Day′ on Valentines day this year.

Biorhythms and Bad Days

In a similar vein, you can have days when the universe works against you. Biorhythms predict that certain days can be bad for you. On these days, you will tend to be more accident prone and need to take extra care to avoid mis-haps. To my mind, one of the more interesting situations where these were used was when the Ohmi Railway company in Japan, used Biorhythims to predict bad days for their Bus drivers in the 1970’s.

They would produce a card, and notify drivers when they were scheduled to have a bad day ahead of time. They claimed to have a 50% drop in accident rates for their busses when they implemented this.

Conclusion

By knowing your Life Path number, and calculating the Universal Day, you can know ahead of time when to plan your critical meetings, to get the universe working with you. Perhaps part of the effect is a placebo, caused by our knowing ahead of time that today is our lucky day, but even so, if it works you should use it. As for me, I never start a really important job in my life except on a ‘Personal day’.

The Scorpion [Vietnam Tale]

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

I can’t remember all the details, of that particular evening out on patrol in the Ammo-dump, but Charlie was to have penetrated the area, and we were to go find him, seek and destroy. And so when we got to the dump, I lock and loaded my M16, as always. It was about 10:30 PM, and when we finally did a two hours search, found nothing, and was suppose to go back to the company area, our truck was nowhere to be found. We figured the driver and his assistant was getting high, laid or something. So we found some 155- millimeter-rounds to lay against, all crated, others in boxes, and some simply on containers ready to be moved, I lay against those [the wood-crated ammo stock]. There was about seven of us standing around, the others were still doing additional checks for some reason, down to a lower level area –I think they were bored and didn’t want to be found resting for some odd reason, and were doing a double check, it was not called for though.

As I shut my eyes for a moment, my thoughts went all over the place, I actually thought about dying, and came to the conclusion I didn’t mind dying then [thinking today might be a good day for it], actually sometimes more so than others I thought like that, today was one of those times I didn’t mind.

Smiley, my friend from Alabama, [uneasily], said,

“Don’t move…” I opened my eyes, and noticed a scorpion crossing my boots, I was going about to swat him off me, then it occurred to me what Smiley had said, ‘Don’t,’ and then he said again [with a warning emphasis],

“I said don’t move, I can get him quicker than you, I’ve done it before…” He was from the south, and always was making jokes with me about being a Northerner and not knowing about bugs and that kind of crap, but he was right, I didn’t know. I noticed he was quite focused on the creature, and so I agreed by nodding my head.

“Don’t make a sharp move, “he added. He gave me a five, that is to say, a thumbs up [in the air] meaning, ‘ok’. All was in order. So he wanted me to do nothing. I wasn’t used to that, but nothing I would do would help at this juncture. Slowly the creature walked up my boots, up to the area of my pants, and Smiley leaned over a little, he knew it had to be soon, for he knew now the creature was going for my warm fabric, not leather, but he was calm and steady, and the back of the scorpion’s tail never went up. The scorpion did a side turn and crawled off my boot and pants, I rolled over a little getting out of its way.

“See, no problem…Chick,” he [confidently] chuckled a little and I stood up, that was the end of my napping.

Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home Movie Review - Starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

“Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” is my favorite Star Trek film. This one is very funny, since the crew goes back in time to 1986 (the year the movie was made) and find they must adapt to our society. The movie also has a strong environmental theme.

The movie begins where its predecessor left off, with Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) on trial for destroying the Enterprise in order to save Spock. Meanwhile, Spock has returned to Vulcan where his mind has been reprogrammed in the Vulcan way, and the rest of the Enterprise crew has taken refuge on a desolate planet in a hijacked Klingon Bird of Prey.

A mysterious alien probe reaches Earth and threatens to destroy it, boiling the oceans and causing a massive power drain. No one on Earth knows how to communicate with the probe, but upon returning to Earth, Spock and the rest of the Enterprise crew learn that the probe is attempting to communicate with humpback whales, which have been extinct since the 21st century. They decide the only way to save the planet is to travel back in time to the late 20th century, bring back two humpback whales, and hope that the probe can communicate with them. Kirk joins them on this mission.

In order to travel back in time, they must slingshot the Bird of Prey around the sun. They are successful and arrive in 1986. They cloak the Bird of Prey and park it in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The dilithium crystals get damaged, so they must find a source of nuclear power to regenerate them. Chekov and Uhura succeed in this mission, though Chekov nearly dies, following an accident. The crew manages to revive him by beaming into the hospital where he’s being kept and treating him with 23rd century medicine.

The crew finds two humpback whales at an aquarium in Sausalito. Captain Kirk befriends Jillian (Catherine Hicks), a cetacean specialist who works with the whales at the aquarium, and tries to get the whales from her. He ends up telling him his true identity, but she doesn’t believe him at first. However, she becomes devastated when the aquarium takes the whales out and sends them up to the Arctic, where they are to be hunted. She finds the enterprise crew in Golden Gate Park and joins them. They manage to scare off the hunters and retrieve the whales.

With the whales, the crew slingshots around the other side of the sun, returning to nearly the same time in the 23rd century in which they left. They release the whales into the ocean and wait for them to communicate with the probe. Eventually they do, whence the oceans stop boiling and the power resumes. For his heroism, all charges except one against Kirk are dropped, the once charge remaining being disobeying a superior officer, for which he is demoted to Captain and placed in charge of the new Enterprise.

Yoga Styles- Guide to The Most Popular Types

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

The image of yoga has changed during the past years. If once, the first picture that popped your mind was of a group of white wearing weirdoes standing on their heads and breathing loudly, now you are probably thinking about Madonna’s well shaped arms. Currently, yoga is one of the most popular fitness activities worldwide. One of its appeal is that it can be practiced by elders and it can improve the overall physical fitness of athletes.

If you want to start practicing yoga, here is a quick guide to the basic types of yoga. While most of them are based on the same ancient postures, each yoga style has a different focus. Some of the yoga styles focus on strengthening the body while others focus on flexibility. Other types of yoga focus mainly on breathing, relaxation, and meditation.

Most of the yoga styles that were adopted in the west, were derived from the Hatha Yoga, which is a general term that refers to the physical branches of the ancient Indian philosophy. The purpose of the traditional Hatha Yoga was to achieve balance between mind and body through moral discipline and physical exercises, which are expressed by a series of asana: postures, panorama: breathing and meditation.

Western culture adopted mainly the physical aspects of the Hatha Yoga and ignored the moral aspects, usually even the breathing and meditations aspects. All the yoga styles that were derived from the Hatha Yoga share the same basic principle that mental balance can be achieved through practice of physical exercises and postures. Each yoga style chooses to focus on different aspect.

Ashtanga Yoga:

This focuses on the flow of postures in order to improve strength, stamina and flexibility of the body. During a Asthanga Yoga class, the participants jump from one posture to another. Therefore, this type of yoga is not the ideal for beginners. People who are not well fit may find it too difficult and demanding. However, if you are interested in improving your strength, flexibility and stamina and you are fit enough to deal with an hour of jumping from one posture to another, Asthanga Yoga can suit you.

Power Yoga:

This is an American development of the Asthanga Yoga that also adopted several elements from other types of yoga styles. You can find Power Yoga classes mainly in fitness and health clubs. Power Yoga focuses on strengthening the body by performing Hatha Yoga postures for a longer time to improve both physical flexibility and mental focus. Power Yoga can be a good exercise for athletes, people who practice types of fitness activities and people who want to tone their body.

Bikram Yoga:

A Bikram Yoga class features a series of 26 Hatha Yoga postures practiced in a heated room. It is also known as Hot Yoga. The purpose of the heat is to allow the participants to get into each of the yoga poses in a deeper and safer manner. The heat also helps clean the body from toxins promoting sweating. Bikram Yoga focuses more on the workout of the entire body, including the internal organs and less on flexibility. Bikram Yoga is not recommended to pregnant women and people who suffer from high blood pressure and heart conditions, but it can improve the physical fitness of people who recover from injuries.

Iyengar Yoga:

This focuses on the physical alignment of the body and the accurate performance of each posture. Some of the Iyengar Yoga postures are practiced with the assistance of props such as blocks and belts that are designed to help the participants achieve the most accurate posture and to protect their bodies from injuries. Since the flows between postures are not practiced, Iyengar Yoga classes are less intense and therefore more suitable for people who are less fit. Iyengar Yoga improves body strength and flexibility and can fit people of any age and every physical condition.

Jack Reider has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for over six years and he highly recommends it to everyone. You can find more of his articles at the guide to gambling-portal.com online casinos that features updated information on yoga and other self relaxation methods.

188 Stage Hero’s Journey (Monomyth): Concept of the Loop

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

The Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the hundreds of Hollywood movies we have deconstructed (see URL below) are based on this 188 stage template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters. This is the template you must master if you are to succeed in the craft.

[The terminology is most often metaphoric and applies to all successful stories and screenplays, from The Godfather (1972) to Brokeback Mountain (2006) to Annie Hall (1977) to Lord of the Rings (2003) to Drugstore Cowboy (1989) to Thelma and Louise (1991) to Apocaplyse Now (1979)].

THERE IS ONLY ONE STORY

THE HERO′S JOURNEY:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Gives you a tangible process for building and releasing dissonance (establishing and achieving catharses, of which there are usually four).

d) Gives you a universal structural template upon which you can superimpose your situational story. This is why stories such as Alien (1979), Gladiator (2000), Midnight Cowboy (1969), American Beauty (1999), The Graduate (1967) and many others (all deconstructed at the URL below) appear to be different but are all constructed, almost sequence by sequence, in the same way.

and more…

*****Magic Flight*****

A flight (with an air of the supernatural), often away from the Greater Antagonism. In Brokeback Mountain (2005), Jack goes to Mexico.

*****Loop*****

Links the start of the story to the end…not necessarily the first scene to the last.. In Brokeback Mountain (2005), we see the Wyoming landscape. Represents the closing of the story but not necessarily the resolution of all challenges. In Star Wars (197), Vader disappears but is not vanquished.

*****Final Conflict - New Self*****

Post the Unbearable Antagonism and Inner Resolve stages, the Hero completes the Transformation and becomes the New Self. In Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Bonnie writes a poem in the back of the car. Clyde sends the poem into the paper and it’s printed. “…you told my story…”

*****Ultimate Antagonism and Inner Resolve*****

The Antagonist commits an act that forces the Hero to reach inside himself and draw Inner Strength and Resolve.

Often, the Antagonist threatens a vile act or an emotional tie. In Return of the Jedi (1983), Vader tells Luke that he will attempt to convert Leia. In Cinderella Man (2005), Jim Braddock thinks of his wife and kids and his previous poverty and begins to win.

African Art Projects For Children

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

The ancient African art mainly consisted of masks and figures that were used for various religious ceremonies. Apart from these, the other artforms included sculptures, paintings and decorative objects. The decorative objects mostly included textiles and everyday tools, which formed an integral part of all African cultures. African art has always been appreciated for its intrinsic aesthetic value. It comprises of an enormous collection of rock paintings and sculptures that are considered to be their greatest achievements. Most of the artwork in Africa has tremendous visual appeal and inspires a number of children’s art projects in schools. Art teachers take various African art pieces as reference subjects.

The easiest African art project for children is to create a paper flag of one of the countries in Africa. Apart from wood, African sculptures were made from a variety of other materials, such as mud, beads, ivory, terracotta, metal and stone. Children can create replicas from ivory soap bars. Clay can also be used to create small figures, which can further be painted with gold acrylic, to decorate them. The Zulu tribe in Zimbabwe has been writing letters, using beads since a very long time. The cryptic messages and proverbs in these letters depend on the design, color and placement of beads. These letters are also good topics for art projects for children. The red, black and white shields of Kenya can be easily made of cardboard, paint, bells, shells and paint.

African art projects are easy to make, educational and fun for children. Children enjoy the process of involved and the colors and decorative items used. Some of these convey moral lessons and help to educate the children. The students explore the art and art forms and are enriched by the impact the art has on the present culture and environment.
